Full Job Description

Position: Public Health Registered Nurse (RN)

Status:

One Full-Time Non-Exempt Position (40 hours per week)
Typical work schedule: Monday – Friday 8am – 4:30PM, occasional evenings and/or weekends may be required

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

Delivers public health nursing services that improve community health.
Administers adult and childhood immunizations and other injections.
Travels to local school districts to provide health education, hearing and vision screenings, immunizations, and records review for immunization compliance. May also assist with kindergarten registration, communicable disease response, and case management services in the school setting.
Participates in the Every Baby Sleeps Safe Program, providing safe sleep education and follow-up to families in need of a safe sleep space for their children.
Participates in the Ohio Buckles Buckeyes Program, distributing infant and child car seats and booster seats to eligible families, and providing car seat checks and educations to other interested families. Obtains and maintains Child Passenger Safety Technician (CPST) certification to administer this program.
Participates in the Children with Medical Handicaps (CMH) program, working directly with families with children with special health care
needs, assisting them with applying to the CMH program and providing ongoing case management for participating families.
Participates in the Reproductive Health and Wellness Program, including STD testing and treatment, administration of pregnancy tests, provision of birth control, and referrals to outside programs such as the Breast
and Cervical Cancer Project (BCCP).
Assists with programmatic and financial reporting requirements for grant-funded programs.
Participates in health fairs, outreach events, health education events, and wellness initiatives.
Has a role in communicable disease follow-up and outbreak response.
Maintains accurate documentation for all programs.
Provides training, orientation and education to staff, students and other health professionals in the community regarding public health practices.
Responds to emergency situations with basic life support and first aid skills. Summons other health care providers and emergency response personnel in a timely and appropriate manner, if needed.
May participate in research and demonstration projects that seek to improve the health of communities and determine new ways to address health issues.
Participates in the agency’s quality improvement, performance management, and accreditation processes.
Participates in emergency response training and drills in support of disaster preparedness.
Responds to public health emergencies as needed.
Assumes responsibility for own professional growth and development by pursuing education, participating in professional committees and work groups and contributing to a work environment where continual improvements in practice are pursued.
Advocates on behalf of vulnerable individuals and populations; participates in assessing and evaluating health care services to ensure that people are informed of available programs and services and are assisted in the utilization of those services.
Demonstrates support of Public Health's mission to protect and promote the health of all residents through implementing primary prevention strategies that prevent health problems from starting, spreading, or progressing.
Works in a variety of settings, for example, traditional clinic settings, homes, non-traditional partner settings (i.e., churches, businesses, public meeting spaces).

EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree Required

QUALIFICATIONS:

Requires current State of Ohio Registered Nurse license.
Requires current CPR certification.
CPST certification is preferred.
Experience in public health nursing or community health settings is preferred.
State of Ohio Driver's License required, with proof of auto insurance.
Successful candidates will be subject to pre-employment drug screening and background check.

PAY & BENEFITS:

Pay Range: $25.00-$35.00 per hour based on qualifications, and pending Board of Health approval of updated pay range
