Registered Nurse – Inpatient Psychiatry | Travel Assignment

Department: Inpatient Behavioral Health / Psychiatry
Type: Travel Contract
Pay Rate: $42
Start Date: August 10, 2026
Schedule: Full-Time (32–36 Hours per Week)
Shift: Evenings – 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM (8-Hour Shifts)
Weekend Rotation: Every Other Weekend
On-Call: None

About the Role

MedOp Solutions is seeking an experienced Psychiatric Registered Nurse for a full-time travel assignment. This position is ideal for an RN with recent acute care psychiatric experience and a strong background working with adolescent and young adult behavioral health populations.

The unit primarily serves patients with low to moderate psychiatric acuity. Candidates should possess excellent behavioral assessment, communication, de-escalation, and crisis intervention skills.

Department Information

The Behavioral Health unit provides specialized inpatient psychiatric nursing care in a collaborative and patient-centered environment.

Patient Population

Adolescents
Young Adults
Acute Behavioral Health patients
Low to moderate psychiatric acuity
Patients requiring crisis intervention and behavioral stabilization

Key Responsibilities

Provide comprehensive psychiatric nursing care
Perform behavioral and mental health assessments
Develop and implement individualized nursing care plans
Administer medications and monitor patient response
Identify changes in behavioral or psychiatric status
Utilize therapeutic communication and de-escalation techniques
Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment
Collaborate with psychiatrists, social workers, therapists, and interdisciplinary team members
Document patient care accurately using EPIC
Follow established behavioral health safety and crisis intervention protocols

Qualifications

Required

Active Illinois Registered Nurse license
Minimum 2 years of recent acute care psychiatric nursing experience
Experience with adolescent and/or young adult psychiatric populations
Current CPR/BLS Certification
Current CPI Certification – Required at Submission
EPIC experience
Passing EKG test with a score of 80% or higher – Required at Submission
Ability to complete required CANTS documentation upon acceptance

Orientation

12 hours of non-billable orientation

Scheduling & Expectations

Full-time, approximately 32–36 hours per week
Eight-hour evening shifts: 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM
A 0.9 FTE schedule consists of:
- Four 8-hour shifts one week
- Five 8-hour shifts the following week
- Schedule repeats over a two-week pay period
Every other weekend required
Holiday coverage as needed
No on-call responsibilities
Floating to like units as needed

Required Submission Documents

Candidates must submit:

Updated Resume
One completed reference from a Psychiatric Supervisor within the past 12 months
Psychiatric Skills Checklist
Illinois RN License
Current CPI Certification
Passing EKG test with a score of 80% or higher

CANTS Requirement

A CANTS form is required for this assignment. Candidates with current documentation should provide it. Otherwise, the required form will be completed upon acceptance.
