Baker & Pastry Cook

Location: Cardoon Cafe and Provisions
Department: Kitchen
Reports to: Executive Chef / Pastry Chef

Cardoon is a seasonal, ingredient-driven bakery, deli and cafe, focused on thoughtful cooking, strong technique, and a collaborative kitchen culture. Our pastry program reflects the same philosophy—precise, balanced, and rooted in quality products.

Position Summary

The Baker & Pastry Cook is responsible for the daily preparation, baking, and execution of breads, pastries, and desserts for service at Cardoon. This role requires strong fundamentals, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a professional kitchen environment. The ideal candidate is organized, reliable, and passionate about pastry and baking.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare and bake breads, pastries, viennoiserie, and desserts according to Cardoon’s standards and recipes
Execute daily prep and service for the pastry program with consistency and precision
Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary workstation in compliance with health regulations
Assist with production planning, prep lists, and inventory for pastry and baking items
Properly store, label, and rotate ingredients and finished products
Collaborate with the culinary team to support menu development and seasonal changes
Follow all food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety guidelines
Contribute positively to a respectful, team-oriented kitchen environment

Qualifications

Previous professional experience as a baker or pastry cook (restaurant or bakery experience preferred)
Strong foundational skills in baking and pastry techniques
Ability to work early mornings, weekends, and holidays as needed
Excellent time management and organizational skills
Attention to detail and consistency in execution
Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 lbs
Culinary degree or formal training is a plus, but not required
