Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Implement the library curriculum, including instruction on internet safety and best practices, across all grade levels in accordance with the schedule designated by the principal.

Support building staff in the effective operation of library services, programs, and resources.

Provide leadership in the selection, acquisition, and evaluation of research materials, educational technology, equipment, and other resources used within the school.

Remain current on emerging information, trends, and practices affecting library programs, procedures, and instructional practices.

Plan and organize professional development and in-service opportunities related to library services and programs.

Advise administrators regarding library budget, facility, equipment, and personnel needs.

Develop and maintain a collection of resources that supports the curriculum and meets the needs of learners, teaching styles, and instructional strategies within the school community.

Foster and maintain an environment of respect and inclusion among students, staff, and colleagues while ensuring equitable access to high-quality resources.

Manage and maintain the physical library space to accommodate a variety of activities, learning styles, and the physical needs of patrons.

Create an environment conducive to active and participatory learning, resource-based instructional practices, and collaboration with teaching staff.

Ensure library program goals and objectives align with the school and district's long-range strategic plans.

Provide direction and guidance to library assistants, student assistants, and parent volunteers.

Maintain accurate records related to library operations, materials, programs, and services.

Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
To successfully perform this position, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential duty. The qualifications listed below represent the minimum levels of education, training, skills, and abilities required.

Bachelor’s degree required, with a valid Pennsylvania Library Science certification.

Demonstrated knowledge and application of AASL and ISTE standards and proficiency with computer systems and digital resources, including but not limited to the Internet.

Demonstrated competence in the use of databases, subscription-based resources, and other research tools.

Proficiency in using technology to support individual communication and research.

Ability to effectively use and present technology to enhance information, instruction, and demonstration sessions for small and large groups of students.

Demonstrated ability to integrate content using best-practice instructional strategies and Pennsylvania Academic Standards.

Extensive knowledge of MARC records, Library of Congress Subject Headings, and Sears List of Subject Headings.

Effective interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively and diplomatically with teachers, administrators, parents/guardians, students, support staff, and outside professional contacts.
Physical and Work Requirements
The qualified candidate must be able to use hands and fingers to handle, feel, and operate objects, tools, and controls and communicate effectively through speaking and hearing. The position requires the ability to sit for extended periods and occasionally stand, walk, stoop, kneel, and crouch. Specific vision abilities include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The individual must also be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
The position requires effective communication, judgment, planning, and human relations skills, as well as the ability to work effectively during periods of stress associated with the responsibilities of the position.
Reporting Relationships:
Teachers in WCASD report to school building administrators. Teachers in WCASD receive professional development and support from a variety of stakeholders, including but not limited to curriculum supervisors, pupil services supervisors, and grade level and content level leaders. Regardless of their years of experience, teachers who are new to WCASD will participate in teacher induction, which is focused on how teachers look specifically within our district.

This position is a 10 month position.

Starting salaries are determined based on relevant experience, education, and internal equity, and are generally set below the midpoint of the salary range.
Process
Individuals are invited to apply to all positions in which they are interested. Individuals are welcome to consider multiple offers. Once an individual commits to a teacher position in one location for the upcoming school year, they will not be eligible for other teacher positions within the district. In the event that a teacher has the opportunity to return to their previous assignment before June 30, 2026, regardless of their acceptance for their new position, they will be eligible to return.
