Full Job Description

Build Financial Clarity Across Every Project

A growing residential and commercial construction company is hiring a Project Accountant to help ensure projects are billed accurately, costs are properly recorded, vendors are paid on time, and outstanding customer balances are actively managed.

This is a hands-on accounting position for someone who is highly organized, comfortable working across multiple projects, and able to identify discrepancies before they become larger issues.

You will work closely with finance and operations to keep project financials accurate from the initial invoice through final payment.

What You’ll Own

Project billing and customer invoicing
Construction job-cost accuracy
Accounts payable and vendor documentation
Accounts receivable and payment tracking
Insurance- and mortgage-related billing documentation
Daily financial record maintenance
Month-end accounting support
Resolution of billing and payment discrepancies

What Success Looks Like

Within your first several months, you will:

Build a strong understanding of the company’s project and accounting processes.
Maintain accurate and timely billing across active construction projects.
Ensure project expenses are assigned to the appropriate jobs and cost categories.
Keep vendor invoices, customer payments, and supporting documentation organized.
Proactively identify missing information, delayed payments, and account discrepancies.
Become a trusted accounting partner to both finance and operations.

Your ResponsibilitiesProject Accounting and Billing

Prepare invoices and progress billings for active construction projects.
Review project documentation, contracts, approved changes, and completion status before billing.
Maintain accurate project costs and financial records.
Confirm that labor, material, and vendor expenses are assigned to the correct projects.
Research and resolve job-cost or billing discrepancies.

Accounts Receivable

Record customer payments and apply them to the appropriate accounts.
Monitor outstanding balances and follow established collection procedures.
Process approved credits and account adjustments.
Maintain clear notes and documentation regarding account status and follow-up activity.
Partner with internal teams to resolve billing questions and delayed payments.

Accounts Payable

Process vendor and subcontractor invoices accurately and on time.
Review expense documentation and confirm appropriate approvals.
Maintain current vendor records and required tax documentation.
Review purchases, returns, and project-related charges for accuracy.
Communicate with vendors and internal teams to resolve invoice discrepancies.

Insurance and Mortgage Documentation

Support billing and payment tracking for insurance-funded construction projects.
Review project and claim documentation to confirm accurate billing amounts.
Prepare and submit required documentation to external payment stakeholders.
Track outstanding funds and maintain organized records of communications and follow-up activity.

Financial Reporting

Support monthly revenue entries and financial reporting.
Assist with account review and month-end accounting activities.
Maintain accurate daily and monthly financial records.
Identify process gaps and recommend practical improvements.
Provide supporting documentation and financial information to leadership as needed.

What You Bring

Two or more years of professional accounting, bookkeeping, project billing, accounts payable, or accounts receivable experience
Experience processing invoices, payments, credits, and financial documentation
Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office
Clear written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work full-time on-site in Marion, Indiana

Experience That Will Help You Stand Out

Construction, home improvement, restoration, contracting, or project-based accounting experience
Construction job costing or project accounting
Progress billing or percentage-of-completion billing
Insurance- or mortgage-related payment processing
Experience with accounting or construction management software
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field

Equivalent professional experience will be considered in place of a degree.

$55,000–$65,000 annual salary, based on experience
