MILPITAS UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT __________________________________________________________________________________________TITLE: Physical Therapist

DEPARTMENT: Student Services

WORK YEAR: 10 Months

REPORTS TO: Student Services

CLASSIFICATION: Classified __________________________________________________________________________________________BASIC FUNCTION:

To provide direct and/or physical therapy services to individuals with specialized orthopedic and mobility needs to promote sensorimotor function necessary to access the educational setting.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

The Physical Therapist will be responsible for identifying individuals with exceptional needs by conducting assessments, providing consultation and direct physical support to students with mobility needs including consultation with the physicians and other care providers to identify baseline data for future measurement, and for the development and implementation of an appropriate physical therapy program for students from preschool through post-secondary levels.

The Physical Therapist is also required and responsible for the following:

● Conduct assessments and providing evaluative information on the student’s gait, balance, equilibrium, orthopedic status and motor function in accordance with legal timelines;

● Interpret assessment data for the development of educational short and long-term goals for an Individualized Education Program (IEP);

● Implement a therapeutic exercise program to address and support the students’ physical needs

● Provide guidance and leads the development and implementation of functional activities, range of motion, postural tone, gait, kinesthesia and reflex integration for the purposes of determining deficits and providing necessary recommendations;

● Create and update documentation of physical progress to reflect the student’s status, progress of physical therapeutic intervention and their overall response to the therapy provided;

● Assist in the development and implementation of the students’ IEP by acting as a liaison between the IEP team, physicians, parents and other agencies in implementing the student’s IEP;

● Work in coordination with IEP team members, general education staff, parents, administrators, occupational therapists, other educational staff members, and physicians to facilitate services and increase awareness of the necessary and appropriate methodologies, interventions or patterns of instructional support for students with specialized physical needs; and

● Provide assistance, consultation, guidance and training to staff and parents/guardians on the proper use of adaptive equipment, and the appropriate implementation of direct individual or group activities, and use of curriculum in alignment with the necessary guidelines and requirements for the performance of physical functions or activities

● Travel to various sites and locations within the district as assigned for the purpose of providing itinerant physical therapy intervention and services

● Work collaborative and harmoniously with staff members, parents, and other agencies for the purpose of ensuring the efficiency of the treatment, services and therapeutic interventions provided

● Maintain confidential student records such as service schedules and progress notes

● Perform technical tasks and the acquisition of skills or professional development required in order to meet changing conditions and student needs

● Operate standard office equipment including computers, laptops, or related software applications

● Plan, organize work, manage deadlines and analyze situations specific to unique needs or conditions

● Attend regularly scheduled department meetings

● Create, maintain reports and submits as required by federal, state and district regulations.

LICENSE:

Possess and maintain a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator’s license.
