Full Job Description

Accountant – CPA Firm

Growing Certified Public Accounting (CPA) firm is seeking an experienced Accountant to join our team. The ideal candidate brings hands-on CPA firm experience and sound accounting judgment.This role requires the ability to review, analyze, and reconstruct accounting records prepared by clients — identifying gaps, inconsistencies, or errors — and transform them into reliable financial information for management and compliance purposes.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Tax Compliance

- Prepare corporate income tax returns, sales and use tax (IVU), gross receipts reports, CRIM filings, and related compliance work.

- Prepare and file quarterly payroll tax returns and annual informative returns.

Accounting & Financial Reporting

- Receive, evaluate, and organize accounting records prepared by clients — assess their completeness and reliability, identify and correct errors or omissions, and bring them to proper reporting standards.

- Perform bank reconciliations, transaction analysis, adjusting journal entries, and month-end and year-end closings.

- Process payroll and manage accounts payable and accounts receivable.

Audit Support

- Perform audit fieldwork for nonprofit organizations, private companies, and homeowners' associations (CIRAs) in accordance with GAAS.

- Prepare and organize audit working papers using CaseWare Working Papers, ensuring proper documentation, cross-referencing, and file structure.

- Assist in risk assessment, testing of controls, substantive procedures, and preparation of audit evidence packages.

QUALIFICATIONS

- Bachelor's degree in Accounting (required)

- Bilingual — English and Spanish (written and spoken).

- 3–5 years of experience in a CPA firm, with exposure to both accounting/tax and audit engagements.

- Demonstrated experience as audit staff, including working paper preparation and audit fieldwork.

- Strong working knowledge of GAAP and GAAS.

- Ability to receive and critically evaluate accounting records of varying quality prepared by clients, identify issues, and restructure them into compliant financial data.

- Ability to handle basic to medium complexity accounting engagements, understanding client operations and underlying accounting logic.

SOFTWARE & TOOLS

- Microsoft Excel — advanced proficiency: pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, data filtering and grouping, formulas, and large-dataset analysis.

- QuickBooks (Desktop and/or Online) — advanced level, including report creation, customization, and proper use in a CPA firm environment.

- CaseWare Working Papers — working knowledge of audit file setup, groupings, lead sheets, and working paper linkage. (Preferred)

- Willingness to learn additional tools, including the firm's CRM and practice management software.

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES

- Approaches non-routine situations with intellectual flexibility, evaluating unfamiliar scenarios from multiple angles to develop sound, practical solutions.

- Attention to detail combined with the ability to understand the broader client context.

- Capable of working independently and managing multiple engagements simultaneously.

- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Spanish.

- Organized, reliable, and client-service oriented.
