Full Job Description

Shasta Union High School District

Definition

Under the direction of the Chief Business Official, to be responsible for the planning, organizing, and directing the custodial, maintenance, repair and alteration of district buildings and grounds: serving as the district representative in planning and developing facilities and new construction: ensuring that jobs are completed efficiently and within regulatory guidelines and projected deadlines: ensuring optimal utilization of personnel and other resources.

Coordinates and directs the maintenance operations of the School District.

Supervises the work of both new construction and maintenance and repair of old structure and equipment.

Coordinate, with site administration, the planning, organizing and directing of facility maintenance programs, including site Deferred Maintenance Plan.

Plan, organize, coordinate and maintain the District Master Facility Plan.

Coordinate with Administration and staff, the development of facility maintenance and facility use policies.

Act as liaison/contract manager for projects employing a project employing a project manager, architect, contractors, engineers, inspectors and other professional consultants.

Assist in the Planning, organizing and coordinating the District Safety Program.

Plan and coordinate construction and renovation projects.

Maintain building plans for all District facilities.

Prepare appropriate information for internal use and public release.

Act as the California Environmental Quality Act Officer for the District, coordinating the Pest Management, and California Environmental Reporting System (CERS) plan/reporting.

Schedules repair, maintenance and installation of machines, tools and equipment to ensure continuous production operations.

Directs maintenance activities on utility systems to provide continuous supply of heat, steam, electric power, gas or air required for operations.

Directs training of workers to motivate staff, improve work performance and acquaint workers with company policies and procedures.

Confers with workers’ representatives to resolve grievances.

Monitors expenditure of funds in budget.

Directs workers engaged in painting and performing structural repairs to masonry, woodwork and furnishings of buildings.

Inspects completed work for conformance to blueprints, specifications and standards.

Studies production schedules and estimates worker hour requirements for completion of job assignment and adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules.

Supervises preparation of plans and specifications for building repair and alteration projects.

Directs maintenance and custodial staff regarding methods and procedures of work, supply and equipment requirements, and operational problems and conflicts, assisting with and solving existing problems and determining future requirements of personnel and materials.

Other duties as assigned.

Bachelor’s degree in business administration and/or construction management; and/or five years of increasingly responsible experience in trades/construction or project management, including at least five years in supervisory capacity over maintenance, custodial, and facilities. Familiarity with Department of the State Architect (DSA) and Office of Public School Construction (OPSC) code and requirements; ability to read and interpret blueprints and site plans is required.

Manages 1 subordinate supervisor who supervises a total of 20 – 30 employees in custodial, maintenance, and grounds. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of these units. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees: planning, assigning, and directing work: appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
