About the Role

Red Cedar is seeking a detail-oriented and systems-driven Fund Administrator / Fund Accountant to support private equity and real estate investment clients. This role blends fund accounting, investor operations, and platform execution, with a focus on accuracy, organization, and high-quality internal communication.

This is not a purely task-based role—we are looking for someone who understands fund mechanics, can execute tasks within investor platforms, and produce client-ready work with minimal revision.

While the role is primarily internal-facing, candidates should possess the communication skills and technical understanding necessary to support investor-facing deliverables.

This is not a traditional institutional fund accounting role. We are specifically seeking candidates with experience supporting private placement real estate funds, syndications, real estate sponsors, family offices, or boutique fund administration firms. The ideal candidate understands both the accounting and operational aspects of raising and administering investor capital and has hands-on experience with investor management platforms such as InvestNext, AppFolio Investment Manager, Juniper Square, Agora, IMS, or Cash Flow Portal.

Core ResponsibilitiesInvestor Platform & Fund Operations

Execute workflows within InvestNext and/or AppFolio Investment Manager (AIM), including:
Setting up subscription documents for eSignature
Creating and managing capital raises
Drafting and processing capital calls and distribution plans
Preparing and auditing investor distributions
Troubleshoot discrepancies between platform activity and underlying accounting records
Maintain organized and accurate investor records and transaction histories

Fund Accounting

Record and reconcile fund-level transactions in QuickBooks Online or equivalent systems, including:
Investor capital contributions and redemptions
Investments into underlying deals
Cash inflows from investments (interest, distributions, returns of capital)
Fund-level operating expenses
Perform account reconciliations and tie-outs to supporting schedules and investor reporting

Waterfall & Distribution Support

Interpret operating agreements to understand distribution structures (preferred return, catch-up, promote, etc.)
Draft distribution models within InvestNext and/or AppFolio Investment Manager based on waterfall terms
Build and maintain Excel-based audit models to validate platform-generated calculations
Collaborate with the U.S. team for review, refinement, and final approval

Communication & Documentation

Draft client communications, summaries, and explanations for internal review
Prepare clear, organized documentation of workflows, assumptions, and outputs
Communicate effectively with U.S.-based team members via Slack, email, Loom, and virtual meetings

Required Qualifications

2–5+ years of experience in fund accounting, syndication accounting, private equity accounting, or real estate accounting
Hands-on experience with one or more investor management platforms:
InvestNext
AppFolio Investment Manager (AIM)
Juniper Square
Agora
IMS
Cash Flow Portal
Experience using QuickBooks Online or similar general ledger systems
Strong understanding of:
Capital contributions and distributions
Single-asset syndications and multi-asset fund structures
Preferred returns and waterfall concepts
Intermediate to advanced Excel skills, including building audit models and reconciling outputs
Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
Strong written English communication skills with the ability to produce client-ready work

Preferred Background

Candidates with experience in the following environments are strongly preferred:

Private placement real estate funds
Real estate syndications
Real estate sponsors and capital raisers
Family offices
Boutique fund administration firms
Real estate investment management firms

Experience supporting the following activities is highly desirable:

Investor onboarding
Subscription processing
Capital raises
Capital calls
Investor distributions
Preferred return calculations
Waterfall calculations
Investor reporting

Note: Candidates whose experience is primarily limited to hedge funds, mutual funds, fund-of-funds, institutional fund administration, or NAV accounting may not be the best fit unless they also possess direct experience supporting private placement real estate funds, syndications, or real estate sponsors.

Own fund administration workflows for assigned clients
Draft waterfall-based distributions confidently
Produce client-ready communications with minimal revision
