Job Summary

We are seeking a passionate and dynamic Director of Christian Formation and Lead Sunday School Teacher To develop and run an inclusive and welcoming children’s and youth ministry, including Sunday school and the development of other youth programs that foster biblical literacy, discipleship, and the formation of Christian character.

Overview:

The Director of Christian Formation will be responsible for working with Session, parents, and volunteers to develop and deliver a program of children’s ministry for Wyoming Presbyterian Church (WPC). This will include assessing needs, proposing programs, developing curriculum, coordinating volunteers, and teaching as well as program outreach.

Key Responsibilities:

Work with Session, Pastor, and parents to develop and deliver a children’s and youth ministry that serves the mission and needs of Wyoming Presbyterian Church.

Develop and lead a Sunday School program for small, multi-age groups of children age 4-12.

Connect with parents to understand needs, scheduling, and encourage participation.

Develop plans for children’s room for younger children.

Recruit and coordinate volunteers to support program delivery.

·Work with Session and Pastor to develop youth programs that match the interests and availability of WPC youth and help to grow the program. This will include connecting with other, local churches to explore an appropriate interfaith program.

Accountability:

The Director of Children’s Ministry reports through the Pastor to the Session.

Direct Report: Pastor/Head of Staff (with quarterly reviews for performance and annual review of compensation)

Employee Report: Session through the Christian Formation and the Personnel Committee Chairpersons

Hours:

Approximately 15 per week including Sundays. Hours onsite may be flexible with prior approval by the Pastor and must be documented in accordance with Church policy.

Required Qualifications: Active in their faith from a Christian tradition.

The willingness and commitment to be a consistent and reliable source of love, order, and approval.

Preferred Qualifications: Active Christian faith with some experience in the Presbyterian church and/or willingness to learn the foundational beliefs and teachings of the Presbyterian Church (USA).

Experience teaching, and with curriculum development, especially in the context of Christian education and youth ministry.

This position is subject to a background check.
