This is a senior, expert-level role. We are looking for a seasoned turning specialist who has spent years on the lathe and can deliver flawless precision parts in difficult materials — stainless steel, engineering plastics, Invar, and molybdenum — with little supervision.

The Role

As our Part-Time Lathe Operator, you'll turn precision components on a CNC lathe, holding tight tolerances and clean finishes on some of the most demanding materials in the shop. This is not an entry-level position — we need a true expert who already knows how to dial in speeds, feeds, and tooling for stainless, plastics, Invar, and molybdenum, and who takes pride in getting parts right the first time. You'll work independently on a flexible part-time schedule, so self-direction and reliability matter as much as skill at the machine.

Schedule

Part-time, in person at our Hutto, TX shop. Flexible daytime hours — we'll arrange a weekly schedule that works for both of us (roughly 15–25 hours/week). Consistent, dependable availability is more important than any particular fixed shift.

What You'll Do

Set up and run precision turning operations on a CNC lathe
Machine tight-tolerance parts in stainless steel, engineering plastics, Invar, and molybdenum — selecting the right tooling, speeds, feeds, coolant, and process for each material
Hold demanding tolerances and fine surface finishes on finished parts
Interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and engineering specifications
Perform your own in-process and final quality-control checks to hold parts to spec
Troubleshoot turning issues — chatter, tool wear, work-hardening, deflection — and adjust to protect the part and the finish

What You Need (Required)

Extensive hands-on CNC lathe / precision turning experience — this is an expert-level role
Proven experience turning stainless steel, engineering plastics, Invar, and molybdenum to tight tolerances
Deep knowledge of speeds, feeds, tooling, and process selection across dissimilar and difficult materials
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, GD&T, and specifications
Able to hold precise tolerances and fine finishes with minimal supervision
Reliable, self-directed, and detail-obsessed

Preferred

Experience machining exotic / refractory and low-expansion metals (Invar, molybdenum, and similar)
CNC lathe programming experience (G-code and/or CAM — Mastercam 2020 or newer a plus)
Semiconductor, aerospace, or precision-tooling background
Comfort with precision inspection tools (micrometers, gauges, comparators, CMM)
