Job Description and Duties

This position is located at the DMV Headquarters in Sacramento.

Under general supervision of the Information Technology Manager I (ITM I), the Information Technology Associate (ITA) will perform duties related to Software Engineering, System Engineering and Business Technology Management domains, including but not limited to Software Development, Software Integration, Solution Design, System Integration, Business Analysis and Performance Management, Application Support, Database Development, Quality Assurance and Technical Writing. Assists in the analysis, identification and development of technical requirements and specifications using best practices and methodologies for the design, development, and coding of software. Assists in developing test plans for modified or new code (Unit Test) to ensure compliance with requirements. Supports applications development activities through each phase of the Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) in planning, analyzing, developing, testing, and implementing of the application software solutions, including, enhancement and maintenance services. Develops and maintains software product documentation and procedures to ensure maintainability. Assists with troubleshooting, analysis and resolution of any programming defects and/or production failures of applications. Assists in project planning activities and design sessions to ensure accuracy of requirements specifications and design of the system. Assists with coordinating project status updates. Documents design specifications and installation.

Working Conditions

Part-time telework available. Telework requires California residency. This position offers hybrid telework opportunities; however, telework arrangements are subject to change at any time based on State & departmental operational needs. Employees may be required to report to the office as necessary.

This position may be required to work on weekends and off shift hours. Telework available but may change due to the governor's directive to work in the office four days a week. Telework requires California residency.

The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is a recognized leader in public service and has existed for over 100 years. The DMV is responsible for registering approximately 36 million vehicles in California, and serving 34 million driver license and identification card holders, collecting over $14 billion in annual revenue. The IT Associate will perform a variety of tasks supporting the senior developers in innovative problem solving within a wide range of technologies, mainly the Assembler and COBOL, Salesforce and Mulesoft, etc. in support of the Department of Motor Vehicles' (DMV) critical 24x7 infrastructure. Knowledge of current industry standards, best practices, and trends related to the software development lifecycle. Knowledge of the principles, methods, and procedures for designing,developing, optimizing, and integrating applications and systems in accordance with best practices. Knowledge of architecture, processes, programming, design, applications, and data environments, to implement the department's most complex projects and initiatives. Ability to develop and maintain standards and procedures to support and ensure consistency during the development, implementation, and maintenance of applications and systems. Ability to analyze needs and product requirements to create functional application and system designs. Ability to monitor and review software development activities to ensure compliance with specifications, requirements, and standards. Ability for application and system development. Comply with security policies and procedures established by the data owners and the Information Security Officer. Ability to implement the technical means to preserve the integrity and security of the department's information assets and manage the risks associated with those assets.
