Full Job Description

Director of Patient Care Services (DPCS) – Hospice

~ SIGN-ON BONUS AVAILABLE ~

Medvista Healthcare is seeking an experienced and compassionate Director of Patient Care Services (DPCS) to lead our hospice clinical team.

The DPCS is responsible for the direction and supervision of patient care services, oversight of clinical operations and staff, regulatory compliance, quality of care, and coordination of hospice services in accordance with Medicare requirements, California Department of Public Health regulations, and organizational standards.

Responsibilities

Provide direction, leadership, and supervision of hospice patient care services.
Oversee nursing staff and other members of the interdisciplinary clinical team.
Ensure hospice services are delivered in accordance with Medicare Conditions of Participation, California Department of Public Health requirements, applicable state and federal regulations, and agency policies.
Oversee patient plans of care and ensure appropriate coordination and delivery of hospice services.
Review and monitor clinical documentation for accuracy, completeness, timeliness, and regulatory compliance.
Supervise, mentor, educate, and evaluate clinical personnel.
Participate in hiring, training, staffing, scheduling, and clinical resource planning.
Collaborate with physicians, nurses, social workers, chaplains, hospice aides, and other interdisciplinary team members.
Participate in and provide leadership for Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement (QAPI) activities.
Identify opportunities to improve clinical quality, patient outcomes, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency.
Assist with regulatory surveys, audits, plans of correction, and other compliance activities.
Ensure appropriate clinical oversight and adherence to hospice policies and standards of care.
Promote a professional, supportive, and collaborative work environment focused on high-quality end-of-life care.

Required Qualifications

Current and active California Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing.
Must meet California Department of Public Health qualification requirements for a Hospice Director of Patient Care Services.
Candidates must meet one of the following qualification pathways:
Bachelor’s degree or higher in nursing or another health-related field AND a minimum of 2 years of full-time supervisory or managerial experience in a hospice or home health agency within the last 5 years; OR
Registered Nurse with a minimum of 4 years of full-time supervisory or managerial experience in a hospice or home health agency within the last 5 years.
Supervisory or managerial experience is required. General bedside nursing experience alone does not satisfy the management experience requirement.
Strong knowledge of hospice operations, Medicare Conditions of Participation, California hospice regulations, clinical documentation, and standards of care.
Demonstrated experience supervising clinical personnel and overseeing patient care services.
Experience with plans of care, clinical documentation review, interdisciplinary care coordination, and quality improvement.
Experience with EMR/EHR systems.
Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and decision-making skills.
Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and provide clinical and operational leadership.
Commitment to compassionate, patient-centered end-of-life care.

Preferred Qualifications

4–5+ years of hospice experience strongly preferred.
Previous experience serving as a Hospice DPCS, Director of Nursing, Clinical Director, Clinical Manager, or comparable hospice leadership position preferred.
Experience preparing for or participating in CDPH, CMS, or accreditation surveys preferred.
