Full Job Description

Courageous Counseling Center is hiring empathic, passionate, and courageous Associate Marriage and Family Therapists, Associate Professional Clinical Counselors, or Associate Clinical Social Workers in California. We are a group of licensed and associate therapists based throughout California, providing hybrid counseling and therapy services to individuals, couples, and families. Our vision is to create a supportive, diverse, trusting, and collaborative work environment where you can thrive.

Role Description The Associate Therapist (AMFT, APCC, or ASW) will provide individual, couple, and/or family psychotherapy in an on-site setting in San Francisco, CA. This part-time role includes conducting intake assessments, developing treatment plans, facilitating ongoing sessions, and maintaining accurate and timely clinical documentation. The Associate Therapist will collaborate with the clinical team, participate in supervision and case consultation, and integrate modalities such as EFT, AEDP, mindfulness, attachment-based, and somatic approaches as clinically appropriate. Additional responsibilities may include coordinating care with external providers, supporting crisis management when needed, and contributing to a welcoming, inclusive environment for all clients.

Qualifications

Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Psychology, or a closely related field.
Active registration as an AMFT, APCC, or ASW in good standing with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences.
Foundational skills in evidence-informed psychotherapy approaches, ideally including EFT, AEDP, mindfulness-based, attachment-focused, or somatic therapies. Other methodologies are welcome. Preference given to candidates that are certified and have experience in EMDR.
Ability to conduct comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments, formulate treatment plans, and provide ongoing clinical evaluation.
Availability to maintain a client load of at minimum 15 clients per week, maintain up-to-date clinical documentation and current notes with billing to an ethical and professional standard, attend weekly supervision at the required intervals per the current caseload, and attend monthly staff meetings.
Strong therapeutic communication skills, including active listening, empathy, and clear, respectful interaction with diverse clients.
Competence in maintaining thorough, confidential clinical documentation and using electronic health records or practice management systems.
Commitment to trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and LGBTQIA+ affirming care, with sensitivity to varied identities and backgrounds.
Capacity to work collaboratively within a group practice, engage in regular clinical supervision, and integrate feedback into practice.
Ability to maintain professional boundaries, uphold ethical standards, and follow all legal and regulatory requirements in California.
Prior clinical experience in outpatient mental health, private practice, or community settings is strongly preferred.
Foundational skills in computer technology including but not limited to: email, EHR software, video telecommunications, word processing office softwares like Google Docs, electronic calendars, and more.

Mental acuity to perform the essential functions of this position in an accurate and timely fashion; to make good judgments and decisions; and to evaluate the results of decisions and judgments
Facility to hear and understand speech at normal room levels, and to hear and understand speech on the telephone
Facility to speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal conversations and over the telephone
Ability to sit at a desk for extended amounts of time
Ability to stand for extended amounts of time

Scheduling and location:

This position requires in-person work at our office in San Francisco and remotely from home while maintaining client confidentiality and privacy
Scheduling is flexible, however candidates must be available to work at least 4 days per week, Monday through Friday, with available working hours between 9am and 6pm, plus have evening hours available at least two days a week (until 8pm). Preference given to candidates that are also available on weekends.
Candidates must be available for group supervision each Thursday at 1pm.
Including clinical hours, admin hours, and supervision hours, once your caseload is full, your weekly time commitment could potentially be between 25-30 hours per week.

Compensation

$45-55 per clinical hour depending on caseload
