Full Job Description

Overview
The Junior Accountant supports the day-to-day operational flow of the Finance and Accounting our organization. This entry-level position is responsible for executing routine, transactional accounting functions, ensuring timely and accurate recording of financial transactions, preparing supporting documentation, and providing administrative support to the Finance Manager and Senior Accountant. The Junior Accountant works under the direct supervision of the Finance Manager and receives functional guidance from the Senior Accountant. This role offers an opportunity for professional growth toward higher-level accounting and financial management positions within a mission-driven nonprofit environment. Responsibilities

Accounts Receivable Support

Create and maintain records of beneficiary families and donors in the accounting system, following standardized procedures and guidance from the Senior Accountant or Finance Manager.
Generate routine and recurring invoices to beneficiary families.
Receive and log incoming donation and rental checks delivered to the organization.
Prepare physical bank deposits, including deposit slips, copies, and endorsement of checks following established cash handling procedures.
Register bank deposits in the accounting system in a timely and accurate manner.

Accounts Payable Support

Gather, organize, and prepare supporting documentation packages for Disbursement Vouchers (DVs), including the authorized Request, Purchase Order, vendor invoice, Receiving documentation, and applicable evidences.
Convert completed DVs to PDF format and attach all supporting documentation for review by the Senior Accountant or Finance Manager.
Register vendor invoices in the accounting system using the account and job/program coding provided or pre-approved by the Senior Accountant or Finance Manager.
Register VISA credit card transactions for organizational purchases and routine fixed payments.
Record petty cash transactions as they arise, ensuring proper supporting documentation.
Record gasoline expenses for organizational vehicles.
File and maintain organized accounting documentation, both physical and digital.

Bank and General Ledger Support

Assist the Senior Accountant and Finance Manager with monthly bank reconciliations, providing supporting documentation and transaction detail as needed.
Enter routine journal entries as directed by the Senior Accountant or Finance Manager.
Maintain orderly filing systems for accounting records, ensuring documentation is readily available for review and audit.

Audit Support

Compile and assemble basic documentation packages requested by internal and external auditors.
Pull supporting evidence (invoices, receipts, contracts, deposit records) from physical or digital files as needed during audit fieldwork.
Support the Senior Accountant and Finance Manager during the three (3) annual audit processes.

Administrative and General Support

Provide administrative support for finance-related tasks as needed.
Assist with photocopying, scanning, and mailing of financial documents.
Collaborate with program teams to gather information needed for accurate expense coding.
Participate in continuous improvement of accounting processes and documentation standards.
Demonstrate commitment to confidentiality and discretion in handling financial information.

Requirements

Associate's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; Bachelor's degree in progress or completed strongly preferred.
Minimum of one (1) to two (2) years of experience in accounting, bookkeeping, or financial operations support; nonprofit experience preferred.
Working knowledge of basic accounting principles and double-entry bookkeeping.
High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and organizational skills.
Ability to follow established procedures and accept guidance from senior team members.
Bilingual, intermediate level English and Spanish (oral and written).
Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (particularly Excel) and basic familiarity with accounting software (e.g., Sage 50, QuickBooks).
Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
Strong willingness to learn and grow within the accounting profession.
Demonstrated commitment to the mission and values of the organization.

Pay: $28,000.00 - $33,000.00 per year
