GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF WORK:
Performs non-skilled work necessary to clean vehicles and facilities. Cleaning operations will range from general to detailed.
Vehicle Cleaner:
- Responsible for all non-skilled work necessary to thoroughly clean VIA revenue and support vehicles including but not limited to:
- Hand washing vehicle exteriors;
- Scrubbing of bumpers, tires and rims;
- Cleaning of exterior passenger windows and windshields;
- Cleaning of exterior mirrors and camera lenses;
- Waxing and polishing of vehicle exterior panels;
- Removal of graffiti from exterior windows, bumpers and body panels;
- Cleaning exterior vehicle lighting lenses and license plates;
- Removal of adhesives and road tar from exterior windows, bumpers and panels;
- Vacuum of interior carpet, upholstery and compartments;
- Hand collection of trash and debris from vehicle interiors;
- Scrubbing and mopping of interior floor;
- Cleaning of seats and seat belts;
- Cleaning and polishing of vehicle interior windows and windshields;
- Cleaning and polishing of vehicle interior panels;
- Removing gum and other adhesives from vehicle floors and panels;
- Removal of graffiti from vehicle interior windows, seats and panels;
- Removal and cleaning of body fluids/excretions from vehicle interiors;
- Cleaning and polishing of vehicle handrails and handholds;
- Cleaning of operator control panels and dashboard;
- Cleaning and polishing of fare collection equipment;
- Cleaning of interior signage including video monitors;
- Cleaning of interior lighting;
- Cleaning of heating, ventilation and air-conditioning ducting;
- Cleaning of wheelchair lifts and ramps;
- Cleaning of wheelchair restraint apparatus;
- Cleaning of interior mirrors and camera lenses;
- Cleaning of interior compartments.
Facility Cleaner:
- Responsible for all non-skilled work necessary to thoroughly clean VIA facilities including but not limited to:
- Hand collection of trash and debris;
- Sweeping, mopping and vacuuming of facility floors;
- Sweeping and washing of facility sidewalks, entryways, parking lots and patios;
- Cleaning and polishing of exterior and interior windows;
- Washing and cleaning of exterior and interior walls;
- Washing and cleaning of restrooms, toilets, urinals and shower facilities;
- Cleaning of furniture, counters and office equipment;
- Washing and cleaning of sinks, water fountains and kitchen facilities;
- Washing and cleaning of break rooms, microwaves and vending machines;
- Washing and cleaning of elevators and stairs;
- Washing and cleaning of signage and video monitors;
- Preparation of facilities for meetings including the placement and removal of chairs and tables;
- Shampooing of carpets;
- Removal of graffiti from facility walls, windows, furniture, and pavement;
- Cleaning of decorative facility trim, pictures and artwork;
- Cleaning of exterior and interior lighting;
- Removal of gum and other adhesives from facility surfaces;
- Cleaning of window treatments;
- Scrubbing and cleaning of tile and grout;
- Stripping, waxing and polishing of floors;
- Removal and cleaning of body fluids/excretions from facilities;
- Cleaning and polishing of handrails and handholds;
- Cleaning of heating, ventilation and air-conditioning ducting;
- Cleaning of wheelchair lifts and ramps;
- Dusting as required;
- Cleans ceilings;
- Empties trash and recycling receptacles.
This non-skilled, non-CDL, hourly paid Fleet & Facility employee job description excludes marginal functions that are incidental to performing the job. Other duties may exist.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Ability to read and write English effectively. Must have the training and experience which provides the required knowledge, abilities and skills.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be 18 years old.
- Texas Class C driver’s license preferred.
- Must have the ability to acquire knowledge of job and occupational hazards and safety precautions.
- Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees.
- Must have the ability to maintain and prepare records. Must have ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- In the event of a sign-up, bump-off or as job demands warrant, non-CDL shop attendants will be required to perform any of the duties within this job description.
- Must have the ability to work evening, late-night and weekend hours. Must be willing to work holidays.
- Must be able to maintain good work attendance.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must have the physical ability to occasionally sit, crawl, and be on unprotected heights, and perform fine manipulation. Must have physical ability to continuously kneel, bend, stoop, twist, squat, reach, climb up and down stairs, walk, stand, and use foot controls; perform simple to hard grasping, forearm rotational movement, be around moving machinery; work in environments of extremes in temperature/humidity, with constant exposure to dust, fumes, gases, and noise (mandatory safety equipment must be utilized when exposed to hazardous conditions).
- Must have the physical ability to occasionally lift/carry 100 lbs., push/pull 110 lbs. Ability to frequently lift/carry 35 lbs., push/pull 50 lbs. Ability to continuously lift/carry 25 lbs., push/pull 35 lbs.
- Must have the physical ability to perform repetitive motions throughout the work day which involve continuous body movement, force exertion, and balancing such as: lifting, twisting, stooping, kneeling, stepping, climbing, carrying, rubbing, scrubbing, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, overhead cleaning.
- Must be capable of repetitive physical activities including but not limited to:
- Washing, sweeping, scrubbing, mopping, vacuuming and polishing of walls, panels and floors;
- Overhead cleaning of ceilings, lighting fixtures, mirrors, camera lenses, windows, ducting;
- Moving of furniture and equipment;
- Climbing ladders at least 10 ft. high and performing duties at unprotected heights such as cleaning windows.
- Job requires use of both hands either simultaneously or singly and both feet are required for foot controls either simultaneously or singly.
- Job cannot be performed by alternating sitting or standing.
- Must be capable of working safely and avoiding safety hazards. Must be able to hear safety and emergency horns. Must be able to read and understand posted safety warnings.
- Must have the ability to perform job assignments while wearing personal protective equipment including but not limited to: respirators, protective clothing/suits, reflective vests, safety glasses/goggles/face-shields, gloves, knee pads, hearing protectors, and back protection belts.
- Must have sufficient vision to safely work around moving vehicles and machinery. Must have sufficient vision, including depth perception, to work from heights and around uneven surfaces. Must be able to read warning signs, labels and other written materials.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Work involves exposure to dust, fumes, gases, noise, unfavorable weather conditions, bloodborne pathogens and hazardous materials/waste.
- Work environment will range from building offices to operating customer waiting/service areas to outdoors in all weather conditions.
Work requires contact with other employees and customers.
