Medical Records Director – Earn Up to $63/Hour

Quality Patient Centered Services (QPCS) is seeking an experienced Medical Records Director to support the Office of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (OMHSAS) at Clarks Summit State Hospital.

This full-time leadership opportunity is ideal for a health information professional who is passionate about protecting patient information, strengthening regulatory compliance, and ensuring that medical records are complete, accurate, and available when needed.

Position Details

Department: Pennsylvania Department of Human Services (DHS)
Program: Office of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (OMHSAS)
Address: 1451 Hillside Drive, Clarks Summit, PA 18411

Schedule:

Full-time
8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.
30-minute unpaid lunch
Major holidays may be required as scheduled
Overtime may be required based on operational needs

Choose the Pay Tier That Works for You

Tier 1 – W-2 with benefits: $56 per hour
Tier 2 – W-2 without benefits: $60 per hour
1099 independent contractor: $63 per hour

Important 1099 Notice: Independent contractors are self-employed and are not eligible for employee benefits, paid time off, unemployment insurance, workers’ compensation coverage, or employer-paid payroll taxes. Independent contractors are responsible for their own taxes, insurance, and other applicable obligations.

What You’ll Do

As the Medical Records Director, you will provide leadership and oversight for the hospital’s health information operations. Responsibilities may include:

Directing the daily activities of the medical records department
Ensuring patient records are accurate, complete, confidential, and maintained on time
Supervising, mentoring, and evaluating health information staff
Ensuring compliance with hospital policies and applicable state and federal regulations
Developing, implementing, and monitoring quality-assurance programs
Coordinating medical record audits and regulatory reviews
Preparing reports and responding to requests from authorized regulatory agencies
Protecting the privacy and security of sensitive health information
Collaborating with clinical, administrative, and interdisciplinary teams
Training staff on documentation standards, privacy requirements, and department procedures
Leading performance-improvement and compliance initiatives
Remaining current on health information regulations and industry best practices
Supporting emergency preparedness, risk-management, and incident-reporting activities when needed

Minimum Qualifications

Qualified candidates should possess:

Current registration as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)
Three years of experience in medical records administration
At least one year of supervisory or management experience
Strong knowledge of health information privacy laws, regulatory compliance, and medical records systems
Proficiency with electronic health records, Microsoft Office, and health information technology
Strong leadership, organization, communication, and problem-solving skills
The ability to provide verifiable education, training, and employment history

A bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management or a related field is preferred. Additional facility-specific training, screening, and clearances may be required.
