About the Seattle Streets Alliance Seattle

Streets Alliance organizes and mobilizes people to make every neighborhood a great place to walk, bike, roll, and live. Since 2011, Seattle Streets Alliance has been at the heart of Seattle’s safe streets movement — neighbors organizing neighbors to make it safer and easier to walk, bike, roll, and gather on our streets.

Our Vision: Seattle Streets Alliance envisions a Seattle where streets are safe, connected, and welcoming for everyone. Our neighborhoods are linked by people-centered streets that make walking, rolling, and biking comfortable, joyful, and part of everyday life — for children, seniors, and people of all abilities. These streets reflect neighborhood priorities, support community life, and help build a healthier, more climate-friendly city where everyone has real choices for how they get around.

Our Structure: Seattle Streets Alliance is a coalition of volunteer-led and run neighborhood groups across Seattle that advocate for the needs of their communities. Our small staff support these independent groups and provide cohesion, direction, opportunities for education, skill-building, and community gathering, as well as running city-wide advocacy campaigns and communications. We are a truly bottom-up grassroots organization.

Job Title: Volunteer Coordinator

Key Responsibilities:

Recruit, develop, and retain volunteers. Process sign-up sheets, welcome new volunteers, and run new volunteer orientations.
Build trusting relationships with volunteer leaders and provide support, guidance, knowledge, encouragement, and organizational support for our 13 neighborhood-based groups that have varying levels of activity and need.
Organize leadership development and skill-building opportunities for volunteers.
Manage volunteer information including CRM database (Little Green Light) and communications platform subscriptions.

Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to

Help to organize occasional community gatherings, meetings, memorials for victims of traffic collisions, or other events.
Support our Communications Director in engaging volunteers and supporters on social media, in our monthly newsletter, on our website, and in person.
Opportunities to work on a broad set of tasks and employ a broad range of skills to support our small organization.

Who are we looking for?

An ideal candidate would be a people person who thrives meeting, engaging, and supporting other people around shared interests and values.

Requirements include:

Experience with volunteer management or community organizing, whether paid or unpaid.
Ability to work collaboratively with staff and volunteers with a diversity of backgrounds, cultures, levels of experience, and needs.
A commitment to equity, inclusion, and social justice.
Ability to distill problems, opportunities, relationships, and other factors into clear plans and tasks for our volunteers.
Ability to keep organized records and work independently and problem solve towards strategic goals.
Ability to keep organized records.

Transportation: A car or driver’s license is not required for this position.

Hours: 24 hours/week with flexible hours. Community organizing work requires frequent evening meetings and occasional weekend work. Most meetings and events are scheduled in advance but many require a flexible schedule.

Compensation and Benefits:

24 hours/week with flexible hours.
Hourly rate range $24-$30 (depending on experience)
Paid time off: generous paid time off
Holidays: Seattle Streets Alliance generally follows holidays as observed by the State of Washington (12 days currently). SSA observed holidays do not count as part of an employee’s Paid Time Off days taken.
