Human Resources & Office Manager

Family-Owned Manufacturing Company
Full-Time | On-Site

We are a stable, family-owned manufacturing company with approximately 70 employees, including both bargaining and non-bargaining personnel. We are seeking an experienced Human Resources & Administrative Office Manager to oversee our people, benefits, and administrative office functions.

This is not a large corporate HR environment. We are looking for an experienced professional who understands the realities of a hands-on manufacturing business and is comfortable operating in a practical, fast-moving setting where flexibility, judgment, confidentiality, and accountability are essential.

The successful candidate will play a key leadership role in both Human Resources and office operations and must be capable of handling sensitive matters with professionalism, discretion, and sound judgment.

The position requires a high degree of trust and confidentiality. The individual selected will regularly handle highly sensitive employee, financial, benefits, retirement, compensation, and company information and will be expected to maintain strict confidentiality at all times.

The Human Resources & Administrative Office Manager serves as a trusted resource to ownership and employees alike and is expected to exercise independent judgment in managing day-to-day responsibilities.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Human Resources Leadership

Manage all day-to-day Human Resources functions for bargaining and non-bargaining employees
Coordinate recruiting, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, employee relations, discipline, performance management, and terminations
Maintain personnel records and HR documentation
Develop, implement, maintain, and periodically review company policies, procedures, and administrative practices, presenting recommendations to ownership when approval or strategic input is required
Administer leave programs and other employee-related matters
Assist in maintaining compliance with applicable federal, state, and local employment requirements
Handle sensitive employee matters with professionalism, objectivity, and strict confidentiality

Benefits Administration & Risk Management

Administer and oversee company-sponsored benefit programs
Work directly with insurance brokers, actuaries, stop-loss carriers, consultants, and third-party administrators
Assume primary responsibility for the administration and oversight of the Company's self-insured health plan, including analysis of claims activity, healthcare utilization, vendor performance, and overall program costs
Monitor healthcare claims activity, utilization trends, and overall plan costs
Review claims reporting and benefit expenditures to identify trends and areas of concern
Maintain active oversight of healthcare spending and claims administration rather than relying solely upon outside vendors and advisors
Develop recommendations regarding plan design, vendor relationships, and cost-containment initiatives
Coordinate annual renewals, employee communications, and benefit enrollment activities

Office Management & Business Operations

Oversee and support office operations including Payroll, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Credit & Collections, Purchasing, and Customer Returns
Work closely with Sales, Customer Service, Manufacturing, Shipping, Invoicing, IT, and other departments to ensure efficient workflow and communication
Identify operational issues affecting office productivity, workflow, customer service, and administrative efficiency, and develop practical solutions for implementation
Help maintain continuity of operations during staffing shortages, vacations, employee absences, or unexpected disruptions

Operational Support
This position requires more than oversight and administration. The successful candidate must develop a working knowledge of departmental responsibilities and workflow throughout the organization and be willing and able to step in, assist, provide backup support, and help keep critical functions moving.

Qualifications

Significant Human Resources management experience required
Manufacturing industry experience strongly preferred
Experience working in both union and non-union environments preferred
Extensive employee benefits administration experience required
Significant experience administering self-insured health insurance plans, including claims analysis, utilization review, vendor oversight, and cost management, required
Experience working with brokers, actuaries, stop-loss carriers, consultants, and third-party administrators
Experience overseeing payroll and office administration functions preferred
Demonstrated ability to maintain strict confidentiality and handle highly sensitive information
Strong business judgment, problem-solving ability, and interpersonal skills
