Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Housing Specialist with DHS CARES experience- to join our team and make a meaningful impact in the lives of individuals and families seeking stable housing. In this role, you will serve as a vital resource, providing comprehensive housing assistance, case management, and support services to high-risk populations, including underserved communities and individuals with mental health conditions. Your expertise will help clients navigate complex housing programs, ensure compliance with regulations, and foster sustainable independence through personalized intervention and advocacy. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic environment committed to social equity and community empowerment.

Responsibilities

Assist clients in accessing housing assistance programs such as Section 8, LIHTC (Low-Income Housing Tax Credit), and other affordable housing initiatives.
Conduct thorough case management by assessing client needs, developing individualized housing plans, and coordinating services to promote stability.
Utilize motivational interviewing techniques to motivate clients toward achieving housing goals and overcoming barriers.
Negotiate with landlords, property managers, and service providers to secure housing opportunities and resolve disputes in accordance with Fair Housing regulations and landlord-tenant law.
Provide crisis intervention when necessary, managing high-risk situations involving mental health or addiction challenges with sensitivity and professionalism.
Maintain accurate records using property management software such as Yardi or OneSite, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements.
Support clients through crisis management efforts, offering guidance on addiction counseling, mental health resources, and social work interventions tailored to individual needs.

Skills

Strong negotiation skills to advocate effectively for clients within housing markets and program requirements.
Knowledge of landlord-tenant law, Fair Housing regulations, and housing assistance programs to ensure legal compliance.
Experience working with individuals from underserved communities and those with high-risk factors such as mental health conditions or addiction issues.
Proficiency in case management practices combined with motivational interviewing techniques to empower clients toward independence.
Familiarity with property management systems like Yardi or OneSite for tracking client data and program compliance.
Ability to handle crisis situations calmly while providing appropriate intervention strategies for mental health or addiction crises.
Excellent communication skills to collaborate with landlords, service providers, community organizations, and clients effectively.
