Full Job Description

Early Childhood Assistant Director

Then we have the career for you! The Valley Opportunity Council’s Early Education department is hiring Assistant Directors for our Early Ed programs in Chicopee. General Description: Work cooperatively with Supervisors in teaching, program planning and general operation of the classroom. Provide training and leadership to staff in cooperation with the Center Director. Assume responsibilities for daily operations of the Center in the Director’s absence. Provides direction and leadership in such a way as to nurture, create, and maintain an environment that is (1) free from discrimination, intolerance and harassment and (2) provide employees with equal access to opportunities for growth and advancement including professional development whenever possible.

Specific Essential Duties: (Administrative)

Complete and maintain all paperwork for the classroom & center required to meet EEC regulations and program policies.
Assist the Center Director with the development of curriculum, using Creative Curriculum Assist Center Director in ordering and allocation of educational equipment, materials and supplies. Create purchase requests for classroom educational equipment, materials and supplies
Assist Center Director in daily program functions
Maintain an attractive, sanitary and positive child care environment that ensures compliance with EEC regulations, NAEYC standards, and program policies
Monitor teacher compliance with training requirements. Attend any and all workshops or training sessions mandated by VOC as well as those required by EEC.
Provide meaningful family involvement experiences on a regular basis
Administer medication to children as prescribed by a physician and in compliance with EEC regulations and VOC Plan for Administration of Medication
Willingness to lift children and classroom equipment in an appropriate manner as needed
Assist Center Director in coordination of VOC transportation for children using that service 2
Keep Center Director regularly appraised of all issues and incidents concerning staff, parents and children
Provide documentation of successful completion of First Aid, CPR and physical, as required by EEC regulations and VOC policies
Work with Director to ensure educator progress in IPDP’s
Facilitate monthly meetings with Classroom Team Leaders
Perform monthly classroom observations and give feedback to teachers
May be required to temporarily or permanently perform Assistant Director role at another center when deemed necessary for program improvement or to meet the needs of the department
Onboard new staff as needed 80% of time spent in the classroom coaching and mentoring staff, 20% administrativePerform other duties as assigned by the Center DirectorSpecific Essential Duties: (Teaching when applicable)
Care and protection of all children at the center. Report any changes in any child’s physical or emotional condition to the Center Director.
Ensure classroom compliance and advancement in QRIS and NAEYC
Ensure completion of ECERS, ITERS and SACRS in classroom
Complete regular child assessments(ASQ) and progress reports (TS GOLD)
Coordinate supports and services for special needs/behavioral needs
Work with Center Director to make child referrals, as needed
Oversee daily program functions in the classroom and center
Participate in weekly planning meeting with classroom teachers
Perform other duties as assigned by the Center Director
Ability to lift children (up to 60 lbs.) and classroom equipment (such as dividers, playthings) in an appropriate manner as needed

General Requirements:

Must have Lead Teacher qualifications and either have Director 1 or 2 certification or obtain this certification within one year of hire
Must have BA OR Must be consistently enrolled in a degree program during both fall and spring semesters until BA degree is achieved (summer coursework is optional). Must submit proof at the beginning of each semester of enrollment and submit proof of successful completion at the end of each semester in order to maintain position.

Benefits:

First 12 Months employees accrue 2 weeks of vacation.
After 13 months, you begin to accrue 3 weeks of vacation.
You accrue 2 weeks of sick leave each year.
30 Min Paid Lunch Break.
13 Paid Holidays.
9 additional paid days off
Other benefits such as, medical Insurance, In lieu of medical insurance, VOC will provide the lowest cost contributed by the agency towards childcare reimbursement or other benefit products such as AFLAC products & Guardian Life insurance.
Retirement plan available through Mutual of America, VOC will contribute 2% of your gross pay. If the employee wishes to contribute through employee deductions, he/she may contribute a minimum of 2% of their pay and the agency will add another 1%. Employees are also eligible to start the plan and contribute through payroll deductions after 30 days on the job.
