Full Job Description

Title: OBHA Advocacy Coordinator – Salish (Port Orchard)

Part Time / Full Time: Full Time

Hourly / Salary: Hourly

Pay Scale: $25.22 – $27.78

Reports to: OBHA Director

Supervisory role: No

General Summary

The Office of Behavioral Health Advocacy (OBHA) is an independent body protecting the interests of Washingtonians engaged in behavioral health services and their loved ones by providing consulting, resources, advocacy, and mediation for complaints against behavioral health services by individual providers and facilities. As such, the OBHA directly upholds the rights of individuals who are experiencing challenges in the public and private behavioral health systems in one of the ten regions established across Washington State. The responsibility of the Advocacy Coordinator is to provide administrative support for the Behavioral Health Advocate and be the first point of contact for their assigned region.

Primary Responsibilities

Assist callers requesting behavioral health advocacy services or community resources information
Ability to effectively use Microsoft Office
Utilize database to document client information and services accurately and efficiently
Communicate effectively and cooperatively in the workplace
Provide excellent customer service to callers and visitors
Verify Insurance eligibility
Perform new client pre-registration
Accurately schedule or reschedule visits with the Behavioral Health Advocate
Communicate grievance and complaint process and procedures
Provide and direct interested parties to behavioral health rights resources

Required Qualifications

Must identify as a peer: someone with lived experience with behavioral health challenges and in recovery for a period of at least one year
High School Diploma / GED
Valid driver’s license
Must have organizational, documenting, communication, and program development skills
Ability to be an active listener by asking questions and reflecting on what is being said
Ability to work both independently and under supervision
Ability to maintain healthy boundaries with peers and co-workers
Be able to work in a team environment collaborating effectively with multiple diverse individuals and programs
Have personal lived experience and knowledge of the Washington State behavioral health system and other related systems
Type 40+ WPM
Ability to research and gather information from the internet
The ability to work a regular schedule

Preferred Qualifications

Data entry
Conflict resolution experience
Experience with documentation via database
Ability to manage time effectively
Strong ability to maintain self-care in a fast-paced demanding employment environment
Ability to learn tools created for use by the OBHA to enhance organization and effectiveness
Must have great organizational, documenting, communication, and program development skills
Understand how to set up and breakdown virtual and in person trainings
Proficient level of ability with computer software such as Microsoft Office products

Additional Responsibilities

This document is not intended to be an exhaustive list of responsibilities. In addition to the responsibilities listed above, the Advocacy Coordinator will be responsible for any additional tasks that are assigned by the Behavioral Health Advocate.

Compensation

Starting wage $25.22 – $27.78 per hour DOE.
Paid Vacation Time – 3 weeks per year, accrued at 5.00 hours per bimonthly pay period, 120-hour maximum annual carryover.
Paid Sick Time – 80 Hours per year, accrued at 3.33 hours per biweekly pay period, 480-hour maximum annual carryover.
Two Personal Days if hired prior to August 8, 2026. Three Personal Days per quarter thereafter. Personal days do not carry over from year to year, have no monetary value, and are forfeited upon employment separation.
Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, AD&D, and Long-Term Disability; employee premiums covered by employer at 100% for employees.
