Overview

Rice n Beans Puerto Rico is seeking an experienced, passionate, and creative Head Chef to lead our kitchen team. We are an established Puerto Rican restaurant focused on delivering authentic flavors, quality food, consistency, and a memorable dining experience.

We are looking for someone who understands and respects traditional Puerto Rican cuisine, while also bringing fresh ideas, elevated presentation, strong leadership, and organization to our kitchen.

This is a hands-on leadership position. The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys being in the kitchen, developing their team, improving systems, maintaining consistency, and finding creative ways to elevate both our existing menu and future dishes.

Responsibilities

Lead and oversee daily kitchen operations.
Maintain the quality, flavor, portioning, and consistency of all menu items.
Train, coach, and develop cooks and other BOH team members.
Ensure recipes and preparation procedures are followed consistently.
Bring creativity and innovation to plating and food presentation while maintaining the authenticity of Puerto Rican cuisine.
Develop and test new recipes, specials, seasonal dishes, and menu concepts.
Evaluate existing recipes and identify opportunities for improvement.
Maintain high standards for food quality, freshness, and presentation.
Oversee food preparation, production, and kitchen workflow during service.
Assist with inventory management, ordering, food cost control, portion control, and waste reduction.
Monitor kitchen organization, cleanliness, food safety, and sanitation standards.
Work closely with ownership and management on menu development and operational improvements.
Help establish systems and procedures that improve kitchen efficiency and accountability.
Lead by example and create a professional, respectful, team-oriented kitchen environment.

Qualifications

Previous professional experience with Puerto Rican cuisine is required.
Strong understanding of traditional Puerto Rican ingredients, flavors, cooking techniques, and dishes.
Previous experience as a Head Chef, Executive Chef, Kitchen Manager, Sous Chef, or similar culinary leadership role strongly preferred.
Must be bilingual in English and Spanish OR able to communicate effectively in Spanish.
Strong leadership and team-management skills.
Creative approach to food, plating, recipe development, and presentation.
Ability to maintain authenticity while bringing new ideas to the menu.
Strong understanding of food cost, inventory, portion control, and waste management.
Knowledge of food safety and sanitation requirements.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume restaurant environment.
Must be dependable, organized, proactive, and solution-oriented.
Must be available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by restaurant operations.
