Director of Management Operations (DMO) Job Description

Organization: Brownsville Wellness Coalition (“BWC”)

Position: Director of Management Operations (DMO)

Location: Brownsville, Texas

About the Organization:

The Brownsville Wellness Coalition (BWC) is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 2008 to develop and collaborate on evidence-based programs and initiatives that improve the health and well being of children families, and seniors throughout the Brownsville community.

BWC programs include the Brownsville Farmers’ Market (BFM), Urban Farms and Gardens, Happy Kitchen, the Fresco Mobile Market, and a developing Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) Program. Together these initiatives create an integrated and sustainable pathway that increases access to fresh, organically grown produce for residents of all ages, particularly vulnerable populations experiencing food insecurity.

Position Overview:

The DMO provides strategic leadership and direction with operational oversight to advance the mission and objectives of BWC. Responsibilities also include financial sustainability and maintaining a professional and welcoming manner with all stakeholders including the public. The DMO reports to the Board of Directors.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership:
Develop and implement strategic plans in alignment with the organization's mission and vision as the organization transitions into The Cannery Market location and partner in the food hub.
Be aware of new/innovative evidence based trends and strategies as they relate to BWC and its role in the Food Hub. Incorporate selected strategies when possible and clearly communicate all to staff and to the board.
Program Development & Management:
Oversee the design, implementation, and evaluation of all programs and initiatives including serving as the point person to expand the DUTX project into grocery retail in the area.
Ensure that programs are impactful, evidence-based, and inclusive.
Stakeholder Engagement & Partnership:
Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, including donors, government agencies, community organizations, and visitors.
Represent the organization at conferences, events, and public forums always advocating for the mission and goals of BWC.
Fundraising & Resource Development:
Lead fundraising efforts, including grant writing, donor cultivation, and special events….leveraging all for maximum impact and sustainability.
Diversify revenue streams and ensure financial health.
Assure that grant deliverables are met and corporate compliance as well as legal requirements are met.
Team Leadership & Development:
Provide mentorship, guidance, and professional development opportunities for staff as the BFM moves into the Cannery and evolves into a partner in the FoodHub.
Foster a collaborative, professional organizational culture that values diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Financial Management:
Develops the organization's budget, and manages financial operations while ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.
Monitor financial performance and make data-driven decisions to optimize resource allocation.
Oversee BWC grant reporting and compliance ensuring grant deliverables are met.
Communication & Advocacy:
Develop and implement communication strategies to enhance the organization's visibility and impact particularly as BWC expands into the Cannery.
Advocate for policies and initiatives that promote healthy living including access to healthy food choices and improved physical and mental health.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Public Health, Nutrition, Nonprofit Management, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
Minimum of 5 years of senior leadership experience in a nonprofit organization, preferably in the fields of food security, public health, or community development.
Understanding of accounting, budgeting, and regulatory compliance.
Proven track record in strategic planning, program management, and fundraising.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and advocacy skills.
Demonstrated commitment to equity, social justice, and community empowerment.

Compensation: Competitive salary $55,000 - 65,000 and benefits package commensurate with experience and qualifications.
