(HTL) – GI Pathology Laboratory

Location: Curative Digestive Disease Center – Houston, Texas

About Us

Curative Digestive Disease Center is a physician-owned, subspecialty gastrointestinal pathology laboratory dedicated exclusively to GI biopsy specimens. Our team of fellowship-trained GI pathologists and experienced laboratory professionals is committed to delivering exceptional diagnostic quality and outstanding patient care.

As a rapidly growing multi-specialty organization with significant expansion opportunities, we are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Histotechnician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL) to join our pathology team.

Position Summary

The Histotechnician/Histotechnologist performs routine and specialized histology procedures necessary for the preparation of high-quality tissue slides used in diagnostic interpretation by our GI pathologists. This individual will work in a fast-paced, high-volume laboratory environment while maintaining the highest standards of quality and patient safety.

Essential ResponsibilitiesSpecimen Processing

Accurately accession and label specimen components, including cassettes and slides.
Verify patient identifiers and maintain specimen integrity throughout processing.
Follow established laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Tissue Embedding

Embed formalin-fixed tissue specimens according to laboratory protocols.
Ensure proper orientation and optimal tissue presentation.

Microtomy

Perform sectioning of formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissues.
Produce consistently high-quality sections suitable for diagnostic evaluation.

Histology Staining

Perform routine H&E staining procedures.
Perform special stains and additional requested studies.
Verify staining quality before release to pathologists.

Instrument Operation and Maintenance

Operate tissue processors, embedding centers, microtomes, stainers, and related laboratory equipment.
Perform routine cleaning, quality control, and preventive maintenance.
Document maintenance activities according to regulatory requirements.

Reagent Preparation and Inventory Management

Prepare reagents, stain solutions, alcohols, and other laboratory materials.
Monitor inventory levels and communicate supply needs proactively.
Maintain adequate stock to support uninterrupted laboratory operations.

Quality Assurance

Participate in quality control and quality improvement activities.
Ensure compliance with CLIA, CAP, OSHA, and laboratory policies.
Maintain accurate documentation and records.

QualificationsRequired

HT(ASCP) certification
High school diploma or equivalent with formal histology training
Experience with embedding, microtomy, and histologic staining
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Ability to work efficiently in a high-volume environment

Preferred

HTL(ASCP) certification
Previous experience in an anatomic pathology or GI pathology laboratory
Familiarity with special stains and quality management procedures
Knowledge of CAP and CLIA standards
