Full Job Description

ABOUT OUR OFFICE

The Lubbock Private Defenders Office (LPDO) is the equivalent of a public defender office providing support primarily to Lubbock County in the appointment of legal counsel and mental health assistance to indigent citizens.

POSTITION DESCRIPTION

The Mental Health Case Manager is integral to providing comprehensive support to clients with qualifying mental health conditions, working in close collaboration with defense attorneys to ensure effective advocacy and coordination of services. This position emphasizes consistent client engagement, diligent record management, and collaboration with legal and community stakeholders to address clients' mental health needs. The Mental Health Case Manager ensures that clients receive the necessary services and support for their legal proceedings and overall well-being.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Client Contact & Support: Conduct regular monthly check-ins with clients, in person or through alternative communication methods, to ensure their ongoing needs are addressed and tracked
Documentation & Case Management: Maintain accurate, up-to-date case notes, intakes, correspondence, and other relevant documentation, ensuring client records are well-organized, accessible, and compliant with all internal controls
Client File Management: Manage and maintain comprehensive, centralized client files that include medical, mental health, education, and other pertinent records to support informed decision-making
Court Monitoring & Participation: Track court hearings, attend dockets, and participate in court dates as required, providing necessary documentation or updates on client progress
Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Actively participate in regular meetings with legal advocates, the Sheriff’s Office, and community partners to coordinate services and address client needs
Service Coordination: Coordinate mental health and social services with community agencies and other supportive systems to ensure clients have access to resources necessary for their well-being
Mental Health Expertise: Stay current on knowledge related to schizophrenia and related disorders, including up-to-date knowledge of the DSM-5-TR and best practices in treatment
Additional Responsibilities: Perform other duties if required to meet the evolving needs of the organization and the clients served

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, or a related field
Experience in case management, mental health services, or a related field
Strong understanding of mental health conditions, including schizophrenia and related disorders, and familiarity with the DSM-5-TR
Ability to maintain accurate, confidential records and manage complex case documentation
Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
Experience working with legal professionals, social service agencies, and community resources
Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
Technology-savvy; adept in Microsoft Excel, web applications, and Outlook
Maintain current driver’s license and auto insurance; must have independent transportation

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s degree in social work, psychology, or a related field
Current state license in Social Work or a related field
Leadership experience in case management, mental health services, or a related team
Advanced knowledge of mental health conditions, including schizophrenia, mood disorders, personality disorders, trauma, and familiarity with the DSM-5-TR
Experience with case management software

WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Working conditions are in an office environment
Occasionally moves items weighing up to 10 pounds
Occasionally moves about the office
Frequently communicates with others; must be able to exchange accurate information
Consistently operates a computer and smart phone device
Must be able to remain in a stationary position
25 – 50% time spent in the field

SALARY AND BENEFITS

LPDO provides a great health benefits package for employees, along with 401k contributions. Holidays and paid time off; PTO eligible for annual rollover. Annual salary offered will be commensurate with one’s experience and abilities. Mileage reimbursement submitted monthly.
