Position Summary
The Worship Leader will oversee and guide the worship ministry of the church, creating an environment where congregants and newcomers alike can encounter God through music and worship. This role requires a passionate, spiritually mature individual with a heart for worship, strong musical abilities, and a vision for blending traditional and contemporary elements to reflect the legacy of musical excellence. The Worship Leader will cultivate an approachable and inclusive worship experience that inspires authentic engagement, reflects our vision of a welcoming community in service to others, and is compelled by God’s grace.
Key Responsibilities
- Worship Service Planning and Leadership:
- Plan, coordinate, and lead our traditional and contemporary worship services in collaboration with the teaching and worship teams, ensuring alignment with the church’s vision to be a welcoming community, in service to others, compelled by God’s grace.
- Curate a diverse setlist that blends the tradition of musical excellence with contemporary worship songs, incorporating hymns, modern worship, and original music to create an inclusive and grace-filled worship experience.
- Lead rehearsals, ensuring the worship team (vocalists, musicians, and tech team) is well-prepared and unified in delivering excellent, heartfelt worship that reflects God’s grace.
- Vision for Worship:
- Develop and implement a worship vision that engages congregants of all ages and backgrounds, fostering a deep sense of connection to God and community while embodying a welcoming spirit.
- Create an approachable worship atmosphere that invites newcomers, making worship accessible through relatable song choices, clear communication, and a warm stage presence that reflects our commitment to service and grace.
- Honor the rich musical heritage by integrating traditional elements (e.g., hymns, choral arrangements) with contemporary worship styles to create a cohesive and meaningful experience that points to God’s grace.
- Team Development:
- Recruit, train, and mentor worship team members, including vocalists and instrumentalists, fostering their spiritual and musical growth in a manner that encourages service to others.
- Build, develop, and implement a new season of a choir.
- Build a collaborative and encouraging team culture, empowering volunteers to use their gifts in alignment with our vision of a welcoming, grace-compelled community.
- Creative and Technical Collaboration:
- Work with the media and tech teams to ensure high-quality sound, lighting, and visuals that enhance the worship experience without overshadowing its spiritual focus on God’s grace.
- Explore creative elements (e.g., multimedia, spoken word, or liturgical readings) to enrich worship services while maintaining accessibility and a welcoming atmosphere.
- Support and collaborate with the Centre and Centre for the Arts.
- Pastoral and Community Engagement:
- Serve as a pastoral presence within the worship ministry, providing spiritual guidance and support to team members and congregants, reflecting our vision of service to others.
- Engage with the congregation to understand their needs and preferences, ensuring worship services resonate with the church community and invite newcomers into a grace-filled experience.
- Participate in church events, outreach initiatives, and special services (e.g., Christmas, Easter) to foster a welcoming community and serve others in alignment with our vision.
- Administrative Duties:
- Manage worship ministry budgets, resources, and scheduling.
- Maintain compliance with music licensing requirements (e.g., CCLI) and ensure proper documentation of song usage.
- Stay current with worship trends and resources to keep Riverbend’s worship ministry vibrant, relevant, and aligned with our vision.
Qualifications
- Spiritual Maturity: A committed follower of Jesus Christ with a deep passion for worship and a heart for leading others into God’s presence, compelled by His grace.
- Musical Expertise: Proficiency in leading worship (vocal and/or instrumental, preferably guitar or piano) with a strong understanding of music theory and performance. Ability to read sheet music and chord charts. Ability to arrange music. Ability to write original music preferred.
- Experience: At least 3–5 years of experience leading worship in a church setting, with a proven ability to lead diverse teams and engage congregations in a welcoming manner.
- Leadership Skills: Strong interpersonal and leadership abilities, with experience in recruiting, training, and inspiring volunteer teams to serve others.
- Theological Alignment: Alignment with the Church’s mission, values, doctrinal statement, and vision to be a welcoming community, in service to others, compelled by God’s grace.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to connect with diverse audiences and create an approachable, grace-filled worship environment.
- Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with sound systems, in-ear monitors, and worship planning software (e.g., Planning Center Online) is a plus.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in music, worship arts, theology, or a related field is preferred but not required.

Working Conditions
- The Worship Leader will be expected to lead worship for all regular Sunday services, special events, and rehearsals as needed.
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends, particularly for rehearsals and special services.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and engage in moderate physical activity during services and rehearsals.
Pay: $78,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
