Technical Operator - Inspection

JOB SCOPE (DESCRIPTION)

Inspection Technical Operators are primarily responsible for performing the quality inspection sort set up for all inspection team members, coordinating requirements with Production Quality Technicians and Quality Engineers, material handling, and housekeeping for the products and equipment in their area. Technical operators will typically be assigned to work on more than one inspection sort each shift and are required to balance the needs of each team member according to the needs of the sort as defined by the Quality Engineer / Supervisor / Manager.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES APPROXIMATE PERCENTAGE OF ENERGY

Quality Activities 50%

Job Set Up & Tear Down 30%

Material Handling Activities 10%

Housekeeping Activities 10%

DETAILED JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Quality Activities – 50%

Ensure quality products are being inspected throughout each shift by:
- Performing required visual & cleanliness quality inspection.
- Properly documenting the results of each quality inspection.
- Proficiently using gage tools and technology, including appropriate lab equipment.
Communicating and properly escalating concerns regarding product quality concerns.
Participating in containment activities as needed.
Basic Quality Lab capabilities to assist the Quality Lab Technicians
- First Piece Proficiency with Comparator, Keyence, surface finish machine, indicator, caliper, micrometer, contour, etc.
- Job Pull Proficiency (i.e. job files, gage package, problem log, etc.)
- Last Piece check-in
- Gage calibration

Job Set Up & Tear Down – 30%

Responsible for all inspection set up:
- Staging proper dunnage to support team members inspection requirements
- Preparing all gages (if required) & training team members how to properly use gages
- Maintaining communication with PQT’s / Quality Engineers regarding inspection criteria
Using the Plex control panel with proficiency to load jobs, report product, report inspection and print barcode labels, as well as reference key documents and information for each product (i.e. cleanliness spec, quality alerts, etc.)

Material Handling Activities – 10%

Transportation of material / parts in and out of the MRB and inspection areas.

Housekeeping Activities – 10%

Performing basic housekeeping activities to keep the department and equipment clean, organized, and orderly. This includes, but is not limited to, sweeping, mopping and maintaining the organization of all work areas.

General Inspection Responsibilities and Projects
- Other tasks, projects, and responsibilities as requested by direct supervisor.
- Inspection Technical Operators are expected to be proficient and knowledgeable, as well as perform the job responsibilities of the Quality Inspector / Operator position as needed.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Requirements:

Preferred Education:
- High school diploma or recognized equivalent.
Preferred Experience:
- 1-2 years in a transferable industry/field.
Preferred Training/Skills:
- Quality Basics
  - Basic inspection knowledge
  - Basic applicable quality lab knowledge
  - Ability to train team members of any sort criteria
  - IP Understanding
- Inspection Operations
  - General visual sort set up
  - Cleanliness sort set up
  - Gage sort set up
  - Weigh scale calibration / set up
- Material
  - Introduction to Metals
- Required Certifications
  - Forklift
  - Maintain required certifications to ensure no lapses in licensing.
Required Qualities: Ability to work constructively with others, demonstrated dependability, effective verbal and written communication skills, heightened attention to detail and ability to follow-through, commitment to team & collaboration, respect for other people, equipment, and work area.

Physical Requirements:

This position requires a high-level of physical activity.
Standing, walking, moving, bending, pushing, or pulling for prolonged periods of time.
Requires frequent bending, squatting, twisting of upper body
Regularly lifting and moving up to 35 lbs.
Occasionally lifting and moving up to 50 lbs.
Requires visual acuity adequate to perform visual detection of extremely small product parts and potential defects
Ability to use computers
Must wear proper eye and ear protection in designated areas.
Must wear proper OSHA-approved work boots or shoes.
