Full Job Description

This position is located in Roseville, IL

Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior SolidWorks Mechanical Designer with 5+ years of hands-on experience to join our engineering team. The ideal candidate will be an expert in parametric modeling, specifically focusing on complex sheet metal design, large assembly management, and automation using design tables. You will take projects from initial concept through production, creating detailed 3D models, manufacturing-ready 2D drawings, and complete bills of materials (BOMs).

Key Responsibilities

Sheet Metal Design: Create advanced sheet metal parts from scratch using base flanges, edge flanges, bends, and jogs. Apply proper K-factors and gauge tables to ensure designs unfold cleanly into accurate flat patterns for production.
Assembly Management: Build and manage large, multi-body mechanical assemblies. Perform interference and clearance checks to eliminate errors before fabrication.
Design Automation: Utilize SolidWorks Design Tables (via MS Excel) to create configurations, automate part variations, and manage standardized product families efficiently.
Drafting & Documentation: Generate highly accurate 2D manufacturing drawings, detailed fabrication prints, and flat pattern views.
Standards Application: Apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and conduct tolerance stack-up analyses to ensure accurate fit and function.
Collaboration: Partner with project managers, Customer, fabrication Shop leads
Data Management: Check files in and out of the SolidWorks PDM (Product Data Management) system, ensuring strict revision control.

Required Qualifications

Experience: Minimum of 5+ years of professional mechanical design experience utilizing SolidWorks in a production environment.
Sheet Metal Expertise: Proven track record designing sheet metal components, enclosures, or weldments while accounting for real-world shop constraints.
Advanced SolidWorks Skills: High proficiency in parametric modeling, configurations, top-down assembly design, and Excel-driven design tables.
Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of manufacturing processes like laser cutting, CNC bending, welding, and machining.
GD&T Proficiency: Ability to read and apply geometric dimensioning and tolerancing standards.
Software: Expert in SolidWorks (CAD and PDM) and proficient in MS Excel (for design tables).
Education: Associate degree in Mechanical Design/Drafting, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or equivalent hands-on 5+ year experience.

Compensation: An hourly compensation will be determined by experience and qualifications. Benefit package which includes health insurance, PTO, and simple IRA will be provided.
