Full Job Description

Overview: University Instructors (UI) seeks a strategic and experienced Director of Recruitment to lead our national recruitment function. In this critical leadership role, you will oversee a high-performing recruitment team responsible for sourcing, attracting, and hiring exceptional instructional staff to fulfill multi-million dollar staffing partnerships with public K-12 school districts across the country.

You will drive talent acquisition strategies to ensure a consistent pipeline of qualified teachers, special education professionals, paraprofessionals, and related service providers who deliver high-quality instruction and support student success. Responsibilities:

In this role, you will provide strategic leadership and operational oversight of the full recruitment function. You will:

Directly oversee and lead 8-12 Full-Time Recruitment Specialists, a Recruiting Manager, a Lead Recruiter, and a large team of Per-Diem Recruiters to meet aggressive staffing goals for public K-12 school district partners.
Develop and execute comprehensive recruitment strategies to attract and hire high-quality instructional staff, including special education teachers, general education teachers, paraprofessionals, and related service providers.
Build and maintain strong talent pipelines to support multi-million dollar district partnerships and ensure high fill rates and rapid time-to-fill for critical school staffing needs.
Partner closely with Account Managers, Program Coordinators, and district partners to understand current and future staffing requirements and align recruitment efforts accordingly.
Monitor and analyze key recruitment metrics (time-to-fill, quality of hire, retention, diversity, cost-per-hire, etc.) and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
Ensure all recruitment activities comply with federal, state, and district regulations, including certification/licensure requirements, background checks, and special education staffing guidelines.
Provide coaching, mentoring, and professional development to the recruitment team to elevate performance and build a culture of excellence and accountability.
Collaborate with Program Management and district leaders to forecast staffing needs and proactively address upcoming vacancies.
Identify, evaluate, and implement innovative sourcing strategies, including job boards, social media, school-based networking, career fairs, and university partnerships.
Conduct regular performance reviews, goal setting, and talent development planning for all direct and indirect reports.
Work closely with school-based administrators to understand their unique needs and culture to improve candidate fit and retention.
Support the creation and delivery of recruitment training programs, orientation, and onboarding processes for new hires.
Analyze recruitment data and market trends to provide strategic recommendations to senior leadership on talent acquisition, compensation competitiveness, and workforce planning.
Manage recruitment budgets, vendor relationships (ATS, job boards, background screening, etc.), and process efficiency.
Document and escalate any compliance, safety, or candidate quality concerns to senior leadership.
Attend district meetings, job fairs, and industry events as a representative of University Instructors.
Maintain strong, positive relationships with internal teams, district partners, and candidates.
Complete other duties as required and assigned.

Qualifications:

We are looking for someone who can demonstrate:

Proven leadership experience successfully managing large recruitment teams (10+ recruiters) in a high-volume staffing or talent acquisition environment.
Deep understanding of K-12 public education staffing needs, certification requirements, and the competitive talent market for teachers and instructional staff.
Strong school-based experience (classroom teaching, school administration, or direct recruitment experience within K-12 settings).
Excellent strategic thinking, data analysis, and problem-solving skills.
Outstanding communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and build relationships at all levels.
Strong computer skills (Intermediate to Advanced level - Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, ATS/CRM systems such as ICIMs, Indeed, ZipRecruiter, LinkedIn Premium or similar).
Exceptional organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
A track record of meeting and exceeding recruitment KPIs and building high-performing teams.

Education and Work Experience:

As a successful applicant, you must have a passion for K-12 education and talent acquisition. Additionally, you will need to:

Hold a bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred).
Have a minimum of 7 years of progressive recruitment experience, with at least 4 years in a leadership role managing full-time and per-diem recruiters.
Demonstrate school-based experience in a K-12 setting (teaching, administration, or recruitment).
Have experience supporting public school district staffing or educational talent acquisition, strongly preferred.
