Full Job Description

Overview

The Resident Dean & Assistant Director for Housing Operations is a full-time, live-in professional who provides leadership for Aiken Hall, a suite-style residential community of approximately 70-75 upper-class students, and its Resident Assistant staff. The role combines two areas of responsibility: as Resident Dean, overseeing residential community development, student support, staff supervision, and crisis response for the assigned residential area; and as Assistant Director for Housing Operations, coordinating housing assignments, communications, and the College's housing software systems (currently Simplicity/Residence, transitioning to Jenzabar).

As a member of the Residential Life and Student Affairs team, the Resident Dean & Assistant Director fosters an inclusive living-learning environment that promotes student development, academic success, personal responsibility, career readiness, and a safe, healthy, and respectful campus community, while supporting the mission, values, and strategic priorities of Landmark College and the Division of Student Affairs. The position contributes to division-wide initiatives, including summer programs and special projects as assigned, and is expected to ensure compliance with college policies and applicable laws and regulations while collaborating across departments to enhance student experience and strengthen the overall operation of the Division of Student Affairs.

Specific Responsibilities: Resident Dean

Residential Community Development & Student Support

Create an inclusive educational living and learning environment consistent with the mission and philosophy of the department, the division, and the college.
Facilitate social and educational programming in the residence halls and campus-wide; supervise Resident Assistants in program development, marketing, and implementation.
Facilitate intentional conversations and interactions with students around individual development and the challenges inherent in community living.
Communicate information pertinent to the personal and academic development of students.
Investigate, assess, and determine appropriate methods of intervention and resolution of various interpersonal and community problems in residence halls.
Consult & collaborate with members of the division and College including counselors, coaches, health services staff and academic advisors to address student and programmatic needs.
Participate in academic and behavior intervention systems when appropriate or requested.
Maintain an active and updated working knowledge of residential life/student development theory and learning differences through literature review and professional associations.

Supervision, Staffing, and Training

Provide direct supervision to Resident Assistants assigned to your residential area, and indirect supervision of all RA staff while on-duty/on-call.
Maintain regular office hours and provide supervision of the Residence Halls and student staff.
Participate in the recruitment, hiring, training and evaluation of the Resident Assistant Staff.
Assist in planning, administering, and evaluating various functions, programs, and services in the residential life area (e.g., in-services, training, hiring, and themed programming).

Operations, Administration, and Facilities Management

Manage operational and administrative responsibilities that include hall preparation, closing processes, key management, maintenance requests, and reporting associated with processes.
Support move-in, health and safety inspections, and move-out processes within the assigned residential area.
Work in conjunction with the Facilities Department and Department of Campus Security on maintenance and safety requirements relevant to the residence hall physical plant systems, security matters, health and safety inspections, and fire drills.
Maintain thorough communication and documentation via timely student follow-up in Maxient.

Crisis Management, Conduct, and Campus Engagement

Participate in an on-call and duty rotation that includes primary on-call/duty assignments; respond to crises in accordance with campus policies and response guidelines.
Act as liaison with Campus Safety, Health Services and Counseling, faculty, and other offices during a crisis or emergency and support urgent student follow-up.
Serve on conduct boards and department, division, and college-wide committees as needed.
Participate as directed in the College’s crisis-related planning and response efforts.
Assist in the enforcement of college policies on campus.
Assist in the planning, coordination, and implementation of programs and events in collaboration with other campus departments and divisions.
Attend and participate in regular staff and division meetings.
Perform other duties as assigned or directed.

Specific Responsibilities: Housing Operations

Coordinate and facilitate the housing communication, application and assignment process.
Oversee the implementation of fall, spring and summer check-in and check-out processes.
Oversee room changes (mediate when necessary).
Coordinate housing administrative responsibilities including assignments, relocation, communication, and maintaining accurate assignment records (in Residence and Floor charts).
Coordinate transitions between housing management software systems as needed.
Manage and maintain up-to-date website content and maintain a consistent communication presence related to housing applications and assignments.
Create, update, and track student housing records in the college’s database software.
Meet with students and advise them appropriately on their housing options.
Respond to housing concerns from families/faculty/staff via phone and housing email.
Coordinate pre- and post-communication to residents about facility-related concerns.
Partner with Facilities to assist in planning, scheduling, and coordination of general maintenance/cleaning.
Oversee all keys, including residential, office, and departmental staff keys.
Maintain an operations document outlining all processes for housing operations.

Required Qualifications & Skills:

Educational Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree (four-year college or university) required; Master’s Degree preferred in Student Personnel, Counseling, Higher Education, or related area.
Preferable Skills: Prior residence hall experience; excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills; understanding student development theory, working with neurodivergent students; experience working with the Jenzabar and Residence/Simplicity housing modules, Maxient conduct system and Microsoft products is a plus; Digital and Physical disability awareness; ability to handle sensitive and confidential information; self-starter with the ability to manage multiple priorities; possess a valid driver’s license and pass the required College testing and ability to work flexible and non-traditional hours.

Physical Demands:

The work is mostly in an office environment. Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking, standing, bending, and occasional need to lift, carry, and/or drag approximately 25 pounds. Some repetitive motions are performed in typing and word processing. On occasion, this position may have extended periods in heat/frigid temperatures.

Benefits:

In addition to the standard benefits package available to employees, this is a 12-month live-in position that includes an apartment and 10 meals per week, when the dining hall is open (~44 weeks per year), to facilitate community connection and incidental interaction.

Compensation: At Landmark College, our compensation philosophy reflects our institutional values, our commitment to fairness and equity, and our role as a transformative educational community. The compensation for the above position is $$42,300 - $63,500 per year.
