General Description:
The main functions of a computer teacher include planning and delivering lessons on technological skills and their integration into the curriculum, promoting responsible internet use, developing instructional materials, evaluating student progress, and providing technological support to other teachers.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Plan and develop instructional programs in computer science and information technologies, adapted to middle and high school levels.
- Teach theoretical and practical classes on computer skills, productivity software, programming, cybersecurity, and other relevant areas.
- Assess students' progress and performance through exams, practical work, and projects.
- Supervise student behavior.
- Foster critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and ethics in the use of technology.
- Develop appropriate instructional materials.
- Keep the curriculum updated according to technological advances and educational policies.
- Supervise and maintain classroom equipment and technological resources in good condition.
- Promote an inclusive, motivating, and safe learning environment.
- Coordinate extracurricular activities related to technology and computing.
- Collaborate with other teachers and administrative staff to integrate technology into the overall curriculum.
- Comply with policies, rules, and regulations of the educational system and the school.
- Participate in professional development activities and ongoing training.
- Promote responsible and ethical use of technology among students.
General Duties and Responsibilities:

The teacher facilitates the social, emotional, physical, intellectual, and moral growth of the student, paying special attention to the mastery of skills and concepts in On Campus, Blended, and/or Distance learning. These are the foundation of all future learning.

- Supervises students during snack time, lunchtime, and recess
- Coordinates class field trips, shows, performances, field days, turkey races, and/or any other activities
- May be required to teach various subjects
- Together with the SUNRISE program, creates reasonable accommodations in the teaching techniques, according to the educational needs, abilities, and achievements of the individual students
- Attends and participates in staff meetings
- Participates in assemblies, co-curricular, extracurricular activities, and any other activity assigned by the Principal or Head of School
- Notifies the Principal promptly in case of absence
- Maintains the confidentiality of school and student records
- Accepts other duties as may be assigned which are related to the scope of the position
Distance Learning Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conducts daily “live” video lectures and/ or discussion classes
- Tutor students as necessary using Microsoft Teams or other conferencing tools
- Designs courses that comply with established standards
- Quickly identifies and addresses problems with course content or technology
- Prepares the course shell with updated information, web links, grade book settings, etc. at least one day before the scheduled classes.
- Participates actively in course discussions, ensuring that all students are participating and interacting with one another. Uses this opportunity to shape the discussion, call attention to other approaches, and answer specific questions raised by students.
- Communicates with students and parents to provide progress reports and updates through online chat sessions and email. May also hold online “office hours” so students and parents can communicate with them at their convenience.
- Tracks student attendance to online classes and report absentee students to their immediate supervisor, parents, or Dean of students.
- Works when scheduled; begins and ends work as expected; communicates, according to school policy, when arriving late for work or when absent; observes policies on break and lunch periods; uses work time appropriately.
Distance Learning Teachers regularly work with the following tools:
- Software Presentation (PowerPoint, Prezi, etc.)
- Online chat software (Microsoft Teams)
- Computer hardware accessories (webcams, headsets, etc.)
Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field with one or more years of experience.
- Teaching certification from the Puerto Rico Department of Education.
- Continuing education courses to stay current with technological advances and educational software.
- Ability to design and implement innovative pedagogical strategies.
- Knowledge of operating systems, programming, networks, and productivity tools.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Organizational and planning skills for educational activities.
- Verbal and written proficiency in English.
- Knowledge of computer literacy.
- Leadership - teachers are strong leaders, able to maintain virtual classroom discipline and successfully guide students through lesson plans.
- Motivational skills – teachers use motivational skills and strategies to encourage students to learn and keep engaged in their own education.
- Communication skills – teachers have strong verbal and written communication skills to instruct and educate students, grade written work, and deliver reports to parents.
- Computer skills – because of the internet-based nature of the job, have excellent computer skills and can work with multiple types of computers, peripherical, and software programs.
- Analytical skills – teachers use analytical skills to evaluate student work and ongoing student progress
