We’re looking for compassionate, creative, and skilled early childhood educators to join our team at Parkway Village Preschool, a new public PreK Charter School in West Oahu for 3- and 4-year-old children.

Parkway Village Preschool is located at 689 Manawai Street #E114, Kapolei, HI 96706, at the newly developed Parkway Village at Kapolei within walking distance of Hoʻokele Elementary School. Our preschool is dedicated to sparking curiosity and fostering a love for learning in every child. We provide a supportive environment that embraces families and celebrates diversity and creating a strong foundation for learning and development. Parkway Village Preschool combines high-quality early childhood education with a commitment to inclusivity, ensuring that every childʻs unique potential is recognized and encouraged. JOB TITLE: Preschool Assistant

PROGRAM: Parkway Village Preschool

REPORTS TO: Preschool Teacher

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Non-Exempt

COLLECTIVE BARGAINING UNIT: HGEA (Hawaii Government Employees Association)
COMPENSATION: $3,471.00/month

Job Summary:

As a Preschool Assistant at Parkway Village Charter School, your primary responsibility is to collaborate with the teaching team to create a nurturing and enriching early childhood educational experience for children ages 3-5 and their families. This role operates under the direct supervision of the Preschool Teacher.

Essential Job Functions:

Exhibit conduct in line with the school’s mission and adhere to personnel policies and procedures.

Assists with the delivery of holistic early childhood education services in alignment with state early learning standards and the latest advances in the early childhood education field.

Assist with administering of timely and age appropriate developmental and behavioral screens.

Implements the use of available resources to maintain a safe, healthy, stimulating, and developmentally suitable learning environment that meets charter and applicable state regulations.

In collaboration with the teaching staff, organizes, reviews, and maintains necessary classroom records and reports, following established standards.

Collaborate with teaching staﬀ members to plan and implement monthly lesson planning sessions and daily classroom activities such as transitions, circle time, free choice, mealtime, outdoor play, pick up and drop off time, etc.

Assists the Preschool Teacher with daily interactions, supervision, and projects with children (may also include field trips).

Advocate for children and their families to ensure they receive effective and relevant comprehensive services.

Other Job Functions:

Engage in pre-school wide planning, assessment activities, and contribute actively to the preschool’s quality assurance and improvement program.

Gather, verify, and submit data and reports in a timely manner.

Actively participate in the annual review of the school’s annual program self-assessment.

Supports recruitment and enrollment eﬀorts, including children with special needs.

Exhibit a commitment to lifelong learning, particularly in early childhood education.

Attend regular staﬀ meetings, as well as other essential meetings.

Working Conditions:

Working conditions are in both classroom and home settings, with occasional exposure to varying environmental conditions.

Equipment Use:

Primarily computer, general oﬃce equipment and tools, and educational equipment.

Work Hours:

Monday through Friday (Day Shift) 8 hours a day, 40 hours per week.

Job Skills/Knowledge:

Ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries in relationships with Preschool participants, families, and co-workers.

Demonstrated leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate program staﬀ creatively and supportively.

Communicates and works effectively with individuals and all clients of diverse, racial, social, and economic backgrounds including disability and learning capabilities, gender or gender identity, and sexual orientation.

Ability to express gender neutral language and prohibit harassment and discrimination based on gender, gender identity or expression, and sexual orientation.

Respects the individuality and confidentiality of persons served and to work in partnership with them and their families toward mutually established goals.

Respect for the individuality and confidentiality of those served.

Strong partnership-building skills within the agency and the community.

Sound knowledge of child development.

Exceptional organizational and time management abilities, advanced reading and writing skills, and can conduct accurate mathematical computations.

Can take initiative and demonstrate sound problem-solving skills.

Education/Experience:

Must be at least 18 years old.

Must meet one of the following educational requirements:
- Forty-eight (48) semester credits, baccalaureate level courses, from an accredited institution of higher education (3 credits must be in Math and 3 in English) –OR-
- Associate’s in arts (AA) or Science (AS) or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution –OR-
- Successful completion of the Paraprofessional Assessment test with a minimum score of 459

Experience working with children under 5 years of age in a childcare or preschool environment

Other Requirements:

Ability to obtain an acceptable FBI background check.

Ability to obtain an acceptable CWS child abuse registry check and Sex Offender Registry Check.

Testing negative for Tuberculosis within six months prior to employment.

Successful certification for job fitness on physical as required by Charter School standards.
