Full Job Description

This is not solely a behind-the-bar position. The Operations Manager will maintain a visible presence on the floor while also receiving time to manage inventory, scheduling, training, procedures and new initiatives.

Harpoon Hanna’s is currently pursuing a beer and wine license and expanding its food offerings. We need a manager who is excited to help introduce these programs, develop stronger operating systems and contribute meaningfully to the company’s growth.

Responsibilities:

Oversee daily café operations and maintain consistent standards for service, quality and efficiency
Supervise baristas and ensure assigned responsibilities are completed correctly and on time
Train, coach and provide direct, constructive feedback to employees
Maintain a clean, organized and welcoming café
Manage inventory counts, ordering, product levels, waste and organization
Create and enforce opening, closing, cleaning and shift procedures
Help develop and successfully launch new food, beverage and service initiatives
Assist with the operational rollout of beer and wine service once licensing is complete
Support expanded hours and new revenue opportunities
Help increase average tickets, product sales and customer engagement
Identify operational problems and take initiative to resolve them
Communicate clearly with the owner regarding staff performance, inventory, maintenance and implementation progress
Protect and strengthen the Harpoon Hanna’s brand and customer experience
Step into service when necessary while remaining focused on managing the overall operation

Qualifications:

Previous hospitality experience is required
Previous management or supervisory experience is required
Café, coffee shop, restaurant or food-service management experience is strongly preferred
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Personable, approachable and comfortable providing firm direction when necessary
Demonstrated grit, follow-through and personal accountability
Able to remain composed while working quickly and efficiently under pressure
Strong organizational and time-management skills
Experience with inventory, ordering, employee training and operational procedures
Comfortable managing performance and holding employees accountable
Able to take an idea, create an implementation plan and ensure the team executes it consistently
Reliable and available for a schedule that may include early mornings, weekends and future evening hours

The Person We’re Looking For:

You understand that hospitality can be relaxed and enjoyable while still requiring urgency, discipline and high standards. You do not need constant direction to move a project forward. You notice what needs attention, communicate effectively and make sure it gets done properly.

You can build positive relationships with employees without avoiding difficult conversations. You know when to coach, when to encourage and when to firmly enforce expectations. Most importantly, you take ownership and want to help build something—not simply maintain the status quo.
