Full Job Description

Overview

SPIRITT is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to provide strategic financial leadership and hands-on oversight of the organization’s accounting, budgeting, reporting, contract compliance, and administrative operations. This role will manage financial resources, support organization-wide budgets, cost allocations, grant requirements, monitor cash flow, oversee audits, ensure accurate and timely reporting, and partner closely with the CEO, COO, Board of Directors, and program leaders to strengthen financial systems and support program operations.

Duties

Manage and monitor financial activity across multiple government contracts, grants, programs, and funding sources.
Develop, maintain, and monitor cost allocation methodologies to ensure expenses are appropriately and consistently allocated among programs and funding sources.
Review program expenditures for compliance with applicable contract, grant, and funding requirements.
Oversee cost-reimbursement invoicing, revenue recognition, accounts receivable, and supporting documentation.
Partner with program leadership to monitor budgets, expenditures, and contract performance.
Support grant and contract budgeting, modifications, financial reporting, and closeout activities.
Prepare budget modifications and budget-to-actual reports.
Work with managers to identify variances, understand their causes, and develop appropriate corrective strategies.
Stay current on applicable government, grant, and funding requirements and communicate financial implications to leadership and program staff.
Oversee the organization’s accounting, finance, budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and cash flow management functions.
Prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, and analysis for the CEO, and Board of Directors.
Oversee preparation and analysis of financial statements in accordance with GAAP and applicable regulatory requirements.
Coordinate agency and program audits and serve as a key point of contact for auditors and external financial partners.
Maintain strong internal controls and financial processes to protect organizational resources.
Identify opportunities to improve processes, reduce risk, and strengthen financial accountability.
Supervise, coach, and support finance and administrative staff.
Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and service.
Participate in organizational planning and initiatives that strengthen SPIRITT’s financial and administrative infrastructure.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Management, or a related field.
At least five years of progressive accounting or financial management experience, preferably within a nonprofit or government-funded environment.
Strong knowledge of accounting principles, budgeting, financial reporting, internal controls, compliance, and audits.
Demonstrated experience working with multiple funding sources, grants, government contracts, and/or cost-reimbursement programs.
Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with senior leadership, program staff, Board members, auditors, funders, and external partners.

Preferred

Experience managing nonprofit finance and administration for an organization with a budget of approximately $3 million–$12 million.
Strong experience with cost allocation methodologies and indirect/direct cost principles.
Experience with government-funded programs and grant accounting.
Experience with budget development, contract financial reporting, and reimbursement invoicing.
CPA, MBA, MA, or other advanced degree.
