OFFICIAL TITLE: Accountant I, Student Accounts (OneCard)
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Associate Director of Student Accounts
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: May supervise student employees.

General Statement of Duties: This position is responsible for the timely processing of student account payments in accordance with State and University policies and procedures. The Accountant I will demonstrate knowledge of the principles and practices of accounting including payment terms and discounts. The Accountant I will obtain appropriate approvals and ensure proper coding of expenses before processing for payment. This position also involves investigating discrepancies as well as maintaining accurate records. This position requires the use of initiative and independent judgment in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:
(E) = Essential
1. (E) Confers with students, agency personnel and outside agencies by telephone, in writing or in person regarding student account billing and payment issues.
2. (E) Reconciles financial documents, records, transactions and statements to ensure conformance with established standards.
3. (E) Assist with payment processing cash, check and credit card transactions in person and online for student accounts and OneCard transactions.
4. (E) Prepares daily and weekly reports to vendors using Blackboard System.
5. (E) Assists with OneCard production and CCure security system.
6. (E) Assist OneCard System Administrator with dysfunctional equipment and transaction inquiries/issues.
7. (E) Prepare OneCard monthly reconciliation and remittance reports for Third Party Vendor remittance.
8. (E) Demonstrates civility and professional, customer-service oriented behavior, worthy of emulation by other staff and students.
9. (E) Reviews agency accounting procedures to ensure conformance with established reporting requirements.
10. (E) Provides technical assistance to employees, clients, state agencies, legislators, municipal, district and/or county officials and the general public to ensure compliance with agency laws, rules and regulations.
11. (E) Assist with reconciliations of third-party billing fpr outside organizations.
12. (E) Interpret state and federal laws, regulations, guidelines and procedures with regard to student accounts.
13. (E) Demonstrates civility and professional, customer-service oriented behavior, worthy of emulation by other staff and students.
14. (E) Responsible for contributing to the WSU Strategic Plan.
15. (E) Responsible for contributing to Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action objectives.
16. Performs other duties as assigned within the Accountant I classification

Job Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

Applicants must have at least (A) one year of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional experience in accounting or auditing, or (B) two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, paraprofessional experience in accounting or auditing, or (C) any equivalent combination of the required (A) experience and the substitutions below.

Substitutions:

An Associate's or higher degree with a major in accounting, business administration or business management may be substituted for the required (A) experience.*
Successfully completed education in accounting or business administration in a recognized business school or school of accounting may be substituted for the required (A) experience on the basis of one year of such education above the high school level or six; (6) months of the required (A) experience.*

Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.

NOTE: No substitution will be permitted for the required (B) experience.

Knowledge of the principles and practices of accounting including terminology.
Knowledge of the methods of general report writing.
Ability to analyze and determine the applicability of accounting data, to draw conclusions and to make appropriate recommendations.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as financial reports, accounts and ledgers.
Ability to understand, apply and explain the laws, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, etc. governing assigned unit activities.
Ability to perform mathematical calculations using formulae to solve accounting problems.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to gather information by examining records and documents and through questioning individuals.
Ability to maintain accurate records.
Ability to prepare genera and financial reports.
Ability to write concisely, to express thoughts clearly and to develop ideas in logical sequence.
Ability to communicate effectively in oral expression.
Ability to exercise sound judgment.

This is a grade 15, non-exempt, full-time (37.5 hours/week), benefited AFSCME position. The bi-weekly salary is $2,152.54 (annual salary is $55,966.04).
