Overview
The Senior Electromechanical Engineer is a highly experienced technical contributor responsible for leading the design, development, verification, and commercialization of innovative electromechanical products and systems. This role provides technical leadership throughout the entire product lifecycle—from concept and feasibility through design, verification, manufacturing transfer, and sustaining engineering.
Working within a cross-functional environment, the Senior Electromechanical Engineer partners with Engineering, Product Management, Manufacturing, Quality, Regulatory, Supply Chain, and Technical Support to deliver products that meet customer expectations, regulatory requirements, and business objectives. This position serves as a technical mentor to engineering staff and plays a key role in advancing engineering best practices, continuous improvement initiatives, and new product innovation.
Duties

Technical Leadership
- Lead the design and development of complex electromechanical systems from concept through commercial production.
- Serve as the technical lead on new product development and product enhancement projects.
- Provide engineering leadership during design reviews, technical risk assessments, design verification, and product validation activities.
- Recommend technical solutions that balance performance, reliability, manufacturability, cost, and schedule.
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance across engineering disciplines.
Product Development
- Design, develop, integrate, and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, electronic, and electromechanical assemblies.
- Create and maintain engineering requirements, specifications, drawings, schematics, bills of materials, and technical documentation.
- Develop 3D CAD models, assemblies, and production drawings using SolidWorks or equivalent CAD software.
- Collaborate with electrical, software, manufacturing, and quality engineers to develop robust product solutions.
- Perform engineering analyses, simulations, tolerance studies, and design evaluations to optimize product performance.
- Support prototype builds, engineering testing, verification, validation, and design iterations.
Manufacturing & Sustaining Engineering
- Support design transfer activities and transition products into manufacturing.
- Provide engineering support for production, supplier qualification, and manufacturing process improvements.
- Investigate product performance issues using structured root cause analysis methodologies.
- Implement corrective actions and engineering change orders (ECOs) to improve product quality and reliability.
- Support cost reduction, value engineering, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Product Management to translate customer and market requirements into engineering solutions.
- Partner with Quality and Regulatory teams to ensure compliance with applicable standards and quality system requirements.
- Support Technical Support and Customer Service by resolving escalated technical issues.
- Participate in project planning, resource estimation, and technical scheduling activities.
Documentation & Compliance
- Develop and maintain complete engineering documentation throughout the product lifecycle.
- Ensure documentation complies with company quality systems and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Participate in design history file (DHF), risk management, verification, validation, and change control activities as applicable.
Support internal and external audits as required.
Skills
- Extensive experience with FPGA programming, SystemVerilog, VHDL, and digital logic design for high-performance applications.
- Proficiency in PCB design using CAD software such as Altium Designer or Eagle; familiarity with surface mount technology (SMT) components.
- Strong background in electrical schematic design, circuit analysis, signal processing, and electronics troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of industrial automation protocols including PLC programming (ladder logic), control systems engineering, and automation testing procedures.
- Expertise in electrical systems compliance including NEC standards and NFPA 70 regulations for safe electrical installations.
- Skilled in using simulation tools like MATLAB/Simulink for system development verification; experience with Python or Perl scripting is advantageous.
- Demonstrated ability to perform root cause analysis on complex electromechanical issues within manufacturing environments.
- Familiarity with mechanical engineering principles using Revit or MicroStation; experience with SolidWorks for mechanical component modeling is preferred.
- Practical knowledge of firmware development for embedded systems involving ARM processors or Arduino platforms; experience with surface mount technology (SMT) assembly processes.
- Strong communication skills complemented by project management experience including project scheduling and team coordination within multidisciplinary teams.
Required Qualifications
Education
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
Master's degree is preferred.
Experience
- Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible engineering experience in electromechanical product development.
- Proven experience leading products from concept through commercialization.
- Experience supporting manufacturing and product lifecycle management.
- Experience working within medical device, automotive or aerospace industries.
Preferred Technical Skills
- Strong proficiency with SolidWorks or comparable 3D CAD software.
- Experience designing electromechanical assemblies, mechanisms, and integrated systems.
- Knowledge of electrical hardware, sensors, motors, actuators, embedded controls, and system integration.
- Familiarity with engineering analysis tools such as MATLAB, simulation software, and tolerance analysis.
- Understanding of Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), and Design for Reliability (DFR).
- Experience with engineering documentation, configuration management, and revision control.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills utilizing structured problem-solving methodologies.
- Knowledge of product verification, validation, and engineering testing methods.
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes including machining, sheet metal, plastics, PCB assemblies, and cable assemblies is preferred.

Work Environment
This position is primarily performed in a professional office and engineering laboratory environment with regular interaction within manufacturing areas. Exposure to machinery, electrical equipment, prototypes, and testing equipment may occur. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is required when working in designated manufacturing or laboratory areas.

Pay: $115,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
