Full Job Description

Job Title: Billing Specialist

Definition of Position: Responsible for all facets of insurance and private pay billing, collection, and utilization review/management.

Title of Immediate Supervisor: Billing Supervisor and/or Co-Director

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Responsible for obtaining authorization for residential services from insurance companies, obtaining continued authorization and working to resolve authorization denials.

2. Prepare, review and transmit claims using Aura, including electronic and paper claim processing.

3. Check all payments for accuracy and compliance with contracted rates and follow up on all unpaid claims and working discrepancy in payments.

4. Identifying and billing secondary and/or tertiary insurance.
5. Researching and appealing denied claims.
6. Responsible for posting payments and reconciling EOB/EOP’s.
7. Responsible for auditing files, for all programs, for financial compliance to ensure the proper paperwork has been received and all forms are signed properly.
8. Responsible for assisting with month-end billing to individuals.
9. Works accounts receivable and credit balances and process refunds.
10. Working with all Admin Support to ensure contract obligations are being met for each funding source.

11. Must be able to appropriately represent and follow SPARC philosophy, mission statement and all policies and procedures pertaining to your position with SPARC.

12. Attend workshops and professional development as stipulated by supervisor.
13. Will observe SPARC’s Code of Ethics and will sign Oath of Confidentiality.
14. Attend on-site and off-site meetings, as assigned by supervisor, and provide meeting notes to team members and supervisor.
15. Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor.

Additional Qualifications:

1. Must demonstrate empathy and establish rapport with recovering addicted persons.
2. Must demonstrate appropriate boundaries with individuals.
3. Must possess excellent time management and organizational skills
4. Excellent communicative skills working with vendors, individuals and co-workers.
5. Must be a high school graduate or equivalent.
6. Must have understanding of basic computer skills, i.e. spreadsheets, word processing, email, electronic medical record system, etc. Must be able to operate 10-key, fax machine, copy machine, multi-line telephone system, and other basic office equipment.

7. Must be in good physical and mental health and obtain a pre-employment TB test. A TB
Risk Screen will be conducted annually with follow through of recommendations dependent on responses.

8. Must consent to a Washington State Criminal Background Check.

Pay: $21.00 - $28.00 per hour
