Full Job Description

Hospice Spiritual Counselor

Everlight Hospice is seeking a compassionate, experienced, and dedicated Hospice Spiritual Counselor to join our growing interdisciplinary team. This position provides spiritual and emotional support to hospice patients and their families throughout the end-of-life journey while ensuring care is delivered in accordance with CMS and Oregon Administrative Rules (OAR).

We are looking for someone who is empathetic, patient-centered, and experienced in hospice care. Hospice experience is required for this role.

Responsibilities

Provide spiritual care, counseling, and emotional support to hospice patients, families, and caregivers
Assess and document spiritual needs in the EMR in compliance with CMS and OAR standards
Collaborate with the interdisciplinary hospice team to support holistic patient care
Offer prayer, spiritual guidance, religious or non-religious rituals based on patient preferences
Provide grief support and bereavement counseling
Participate in IDG/interdisciplinary meetings
Educate staff and volunteers regarding spiritual care at end of life
Maintain accurate, timely documentation and ensure HIPAA compliance

Qualifications

Minimum 1 years of hospice experience required
Experience in chaplaincy, pastoral care, spiritual counseling, or grief support
Master’s degree in Theology, Divinity, Pastoral Care, or related field preferred
Board Certified Chaplain (BCC) preferred
Strong understanding of hospice philosophy and end-of-life care
Knowledge of Medicare Hospice Benefit and Oregon hospice regulations preferred
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work respectfully with individuals of diverse cultural, spiritual, and religious backgrounds
Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and proof of insurance required

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with bereavement support and grief counseling
Training in crisis intervention and pastoral care for terminally ill patients
Bilingual applicants encouraged to apply
