Full Job Description

Job Title: Medical Assistant, Occupational Health

Reports to: Sr. Manager of Clinical Operations

Status: Full-Time, Non-Exempt

Medical Assistant (MA) is responsible for supporting the Lead Nurse and/or Paramedic, and entire clinical team, in the care of patients of all ages from neonatal through geriatric in the clinic. The MA’s primary purpose is to monitor patient flow to ensure maximum efficiency while providing fast, friendly, quality patient care. The MA must establish and maintain good rapport and effective working relationships with patients, visitors, and Duke City Cares employees. The MA performs skills such as wound care and splint application and assists with additional procedures to support the clinical team. The MA is also responsible for maintaining safe, clean, and well-stocked patient care and clinical areas while assuring adherence to applicable policies and procedures.

Job Responsibilities:

Assist the Clinical Supervisor and other support staff in the management and observation of all patients in the clinic
Assist the Clinical Supervisor and Clinic Manager in obtaining Work Comp Claim Numbers, Adjuster contact information and working with Insurance Adjusters to obtain authorizations for Diagnostic and Specialist Referrals
Clean patient care rooms, equipment and instruments; report equipment problems; order and store supplies
Assist the Clinical Supervisor and providers with complex treatment procedures; perform routine treatment procedures as allowed based on policies and procedures
Report physical exam results to employers, TPA's etc.
Perform Urine Drug Testing following DOT Guidelines, Perform Breath Alcohol Testing following DOT Guidelines, Perform Hair Follicle Drug Testing following local and state guidelines
Perform Audiograms, EKG's, Pulmonary Function Testing, Respirator Fit Testing, Blood, and urine lab collections as requested by the attending provider as requested
Perform basic procedures to include ear lavage, eye irrigation, suture, and staple removal
Administer injections such as, MMR, Varicella, Tdap, Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, COVID-19
Administer PPD TB Skin test and perform TB reading
Dispense Medications from in-house pharmacy under direct supervision of attending provider
Properly fit and coach patients for crutches, canes, support braces and other DME equipment
Complete wound care process according to medical protocol under the direct supervision of the attending provider
Transport patients, collect, label and transport specimens, equipment, and supplies

Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements:

High School graduate or GED equivalent
Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistance school
Minimum of 6 months of Occupational Medicine experience
Minimum of 6 months of supervisory/lead experience

Must obtain additional qualifications

Certified Urine Drug Screen Collector from Intoximeter
Certified Breath Alcohol Technician from Intoximeter
Certified Hair Collector from Psychemedics
Certified DOT Medical Examiner Assistant from FMCSA
Certified FAA Medical Examiner Assistant from Aerospace Medicine Division
Complete clearance from QTC to include a background check and fingerprinting
CAOHC Certification from the Council for Accreditation in Occupational Hearing Conservation
NIOSH Certification from OMI

Physical Demands Requirements:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects or people. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work

Behavioral Demands/Requirements:

Must have the appropriate level of behavioral maturity and patience in handling patients.
Must have the diplomacy and tact in handling difficult and irate patients
Very good interpersonal relationship skills and can work and relate well with co- employees, patients and customers
Strong ethics and a high level of personal and professional integrity

Pay: $19.00 - $25.00 per hour
