Join our dynamic healthcare team as a Clinical Mental Health Counseling Intern and make a meaningful impact on individuals' lives by providing compassionate mental health support. This paid internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in clinical counseling, develop essential skills, and collaborate with experienced professionals across diverse settings. You will engage in direct patient care, participate in research initiatives, and refine your expertise in a variety of therapeutic modalities. Duties

Assist licensed clinicians in conducting intake assessments and diagnostic evaluations using ICD-9 and ICD-10 coding systems to ensure accurate patient records.
Support the delivery of individual and group therapy sessions utilizing evidence-based practices such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, behavioral therapy, and applied behavior analysis (ABA).
Participate in crisis intervention and crisis management activities, including de-escalation techniques and emergency response coordination, ensuring patient safety at all times.
Engage in patient care activities such as behavior management, social work case management, and patient assessment for diverse populations including pediatrics, geriatrics, individuals with developmental disabilities or autism, and those experiencing PTSD or grief.
Contribute to clinical research projects by collecting data, maintaining medical documentation, and supporting HIPAA-compliant recordkeeping practices.
Assist with telehealth sessions and outpatient clinic activities to expand access to mental health services across different modalities.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on treatment planning, progress notes, medical records management, and documentation using CPT coding for billing purposes.

Qualifications

Currently enrolled in a master's or doctoral program in counseling, social work, psychology or related field with a focus on mental health counseling or clinical psychology.
Demonstrated knowledge of psychotherapy techniques including motivational interviewing, psychodynamic therapy, dance therapy, art therapy, and gender issues counseling.
Experience working with children, individuals with disabilities (including autism), or those requiring special education is highly desirable.
Familiarity with crisis intervention strategies, crisis management protocols, and behavioral management approaches.
Strong understanding of medical terminology related to behavioral health diagnoses such as PTSD, chronic pain conditions, ICD coding systems (ICD-9/ICD-10), CPT coding for billing purposes.
Excellent communication skills for intake procedures, patient assessment, and collaboration within healthcare teams.
Ability to handle sensitive situations with professionalism while maintaining confidentiality per HIPAA regulations.
Prior telehealth experience or outpatient clinic exposure is preferred; experience working in inpatient settings or hospital environments is a plus.
