POSITION SUMMARY:

The Bindery Operator sets up, operates, and maintains bindery and finishing equipment to produce high-quality printed materials that meet job specifications and production schedules. This role provides hands-on technical leadership on the floor by supporting workflow priorities, assisting with training, and ensuring work is completed accurately, efficiently, and safely; travel to other Salem One facilities may be required to support client delivery dates.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Set up, operate, and monitor bindery/finishing equipment (e.g., folders, cutters, stitchers) to meet job requirements and target throughput.
Review job tickets, specifications, and samples; perform first-piece approval and in-process quality checks to ensure compliance with customer and Salem One standards.
Make advanced adjustments to machine settings, tooling, and materials; troubleshoot process issues to minimize waste, rework, and downtime.
Preferred knowledge on guillotine cutters, folders, Saddle stitching or similar, and misc. smaller finishing equipment (Drill, shrink wrap, etc.)
Perform routine cleaning, maintenance, and changeovers; identify mechanical concerns early and coordinate timely support/repairs.
Provide floor-level guidance to helpers/operators, assist with training, and reinforce standard work, safety expectations, and quality requirements.
Communicate proactively with supervisors and upstream/downstream teams to prioritize work, resolve constraints, and support on-time completion.
Accurately complete production logs, counts, downtime tracking, and required documentation.

QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma or equivalent required.
3+ years of experience in bindery/print finishing or related manufacturing equipment operation.
Demonstrated proficiency with bindery/finishing equipment; relevant certification or documented on-the-job qualification/training preferred.
Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills; ability to set up and adjust equipment to meet quality specifications.
Ability to read and interpret job tickets and specifications; strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
Basic math and measurement skills.
Ability to lead by example, coach others, and communicate effectively in a fast-paced environment.
