I have over 9 years’ experience as a Radiation Therapist.  For over a year now I’ve been working here as a staff RT and what a breath of fresh air! Recently management changed and I truly feel like part of the team. Here Teamwork isn’t what is said its what’s promoted and done.  I feel like I’m a valued employee, not just a number, because management tells and shows me that I am. We all are valued!  If that alone isn't enough, just recently, we got huge raises and the benefits/time off are great!  

The doctors are so easy to talk to.  You can ask them anything, without judgment, and they will take the time to answer your questions or teach you something that you did not know.  If there are any questions with a setup, images, or anything, the doctors come immediately and never complain about how many times they get called.  

Training is exceptional.  It's not, you have 3 days and then you are thrown to the wolves. If you need more time and training, you will get it.  Everyone wants you to succeed and you are given the support you need to accomplish this.  Even though there are no students here it is a healthy environment for learning, and you have the opportunity to question and learn.  Upper management promotes a healthy work environment for you to excel and be able to do your job well.

Everyone works well together and is so nice to you. When there is a problem it’s all hands-on deck to come up with a solution because everyone cares.   

I look forward to going to work every day and I'm truly grateful that I found this place.  My only regret is not finding it sooner.  An added bonus is the center is located off site, at hillcrest, so parking is close and plentiful.

Working at BMC is a fantastic way to learn skills in your field, whether it be medical, psychiatric or nursing. However, once you have completed your educational program, it is best to seek employment elsewhere. Unless you are a in the nursing field, there is minimal opportunity for advancement. The quality of life within the workforce can also be challenging as there is a certain level of inclusivity with certain staff members. It is a fantastic place to build skills and abilities however, it is not somewhere I feel inspires teamwork within different modalities of healthcare. There is a very strained relationship between nurses and other staff due to the belief that nurses and doctors are the only valuable staff members on the inpatient units. I genuinely love my job but avidly sought other employment due to the individuals I worked with causing me to feel as though my job was less valuable than theirs because they are nursing staff. 

I am an RN who worked for BMC for two weeks before quitting. It's a highly toxic workplace.  I was thrilled to get the job, thrilled to take care of people, and thrilled at the competitive pay. I was treated like gold for two days, then hit the floor. Pt acuity on med surg units are more suited to an ICU (active GI bleed with blood hung, another with rapidly decompensating breathing, etc. but hey...only 5 patients to a nurse...who cares if one nurse can't do all that? Who cares if your license is on the line?) You will be told how amazing you are, then come in to a three page write up the next day. Your schedule will be changed without notification, but you'll be punished for being unaware of this. This workplace is about popularity, not competency or quality patient care. If you don't believe me, just look at how many jobs are open at BMC....they can't keep help, and are relying on traveling nurses. If you want to live with excessive stress, paranoia about backstabbing, risky patient safety, and potential loss of your professional license, this is the place for you.

I really enjoyed working with Berkshire Health Systems. They have a great benefit package and competitive salaries. I also enjoyed the people I had worked with. We worked as a team and always had each others back when it came to the work load. A typical workday would start at 730 am. I would get a quick review of the night before and start wiping counters and machines down at the same time making sure shelves were stocked with proper supplies for our daily duties. We also had a problem list which was shared amongst the staff. We would answer phones, questions and anything else that was asked of the front desk. I have learned insurance codes, meditech and allscripts which were the programs we were all taught to use. New management was a different story. Was not organized and it was hard to get a schedule for the coming weeks. Hardest part of the job was when we would be short staffed. Most enjoyable part of the job was my co-workers.

Instant change in most policies all at once and then policies change almost immediately after initial changes 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It can be stressful  and demanding - a lot of the management team had common goals and work duties get confusing 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Other than the discrepancies between the management team, it was consistent and busy

I was only able to stay in this position for about a year before it became too much for me. Can be stressful to deal with aggressive patients and visitors, and the ED is often understaffed leading to long wait times. At the front desk, you are the person they get angry with when they are worried or in pain, and there is not much you can do to help. I also noticed nurses sometimes making fun of patients, and being rude and cliquish. It was a stressful environment to be in. However, the job does have good paid time off and benefits, even for part time. There is also a lot of downtime, especially on weekdays. I recommend only if you are great at dealing with stress and don’t let others get to you. 

Horrible management from direct supervisor on up. Complaints are never resolved just pushed under the carpet. There is NO TEAM WORK! No one will do anything to help out another employee. I had to basically beg to get someone to cover me for lunches. Expectations are work work work multiple positions with NO MORE PAY! Get sick oh better be careful you'll get written up even if you have a Dr's note or in hospital.  They really don't care! Employees are not respected nor appreciated.  DONT WORK THERE !!!

Working with patients and very supportive staff. Coworkers were always willing to answer questions and assist with difficult patients or situations. Went into this position directly out of school and learned many helpful skills to advance my career. The work environment made it easy to have fun with patients while completing daily tasks of therapy. Most difficult part of the job was scheduling the patients in order to get all therapy within time frame. Department Manager was always accessible.

I enjoy working for Berkshire Health Systems.  This company have room for growth and is always finding ways for you to grow with your education.  If I wasn't looking to relocate to be closer to my family I would stay at my current position.  

While I was attending school my Supervisor was able to work with my schedule. My coworkers was always willing to change shifts with me so we wouldn't have to call out or leave a shift empty.

What I like the most about Berkshire Health Systems is that it is a teaching hospital, and there was someone always around to answer any question.
