The Indigo Road

I have found my time with the Indigo Road extremely rewarding.  Not only was the interview process thorough, so that I felt that I knew exactly who I was going to work for, but they also knew exactly who they were hiring, I have been guided to gain so many new skills to help continue to set me up for success.  Culture is an extremely important part of the company and the spaces that we lead.  It isn't easy, but it is truly the most important work that we can do: embracing positivity, working collaboratively, holding people accountable for their actions, and continuing to provide a space where team feels valued, appreciated, and supported. Because of the support that I receive from the Senior Leaders at Indigo Road, I am able to set an example for my team and offer the same kind of support to them.  This truly is the best job that I have ever had.  And I am extremely honored to continue the good work we have embarked on together.  

While I don't completely blame Indigo Road, they established a new restaurant in an area that they had not much knowledge on. The restaurant was set up to be a fine dining experience, but there is an extremely limited talent pool within this area. In larger cities I'm sure there are scores of culinary students, but in our small town there was not. So trying to design a menu that is elegant but not pretentious, and also doable with the talent pool available was very difficult. Add that on top of the expectations within my specific location, and the ever-present challenges to staffing throughout the industry, and the work/life balance quickly tips all the way to the work side with very little room for life. With a young family, I found this to be extremely taxing on my home life, so I decided to find a different career path.

I have previously worked for Indigo Road Hospitality before this year, and had left for personal reasons that had nothing to do with the environment.

They welcomed me back with open arms, took into consideration all of my experience and I was treated as if I had never left. Their core values and management continue to impress me and I feel comfortable here- more so than any other work environment I have been a part of. 

My typical day is full of laughs, communication with the team and continuous growth.I've learned to ask for help here, what it truly means to be a part of a good team and the culture is outstanding.

If you are considering a position within this company, it is well worth your time and future. So many different ways for advancement and it becomes a family instead of just a company. 

In my short time with The Indigo Road, I’ve seen firsthand that they are steadfast in hiring folks who place true hospitality at the heart of everything—whether they’re caring for guests, partnering with vendors, or supporting one another as teammates. It’s a company whose culture is genuinely unmatched, a rare blend of warmth and refinement I haven’t found anywhere else.

I feel proud every day walking into an operation that is truly people-focused—not only for our guests but for every team member. The concepts are inspiring, and the culture is real. When the owner says, “Everyone has a seat at our table,” you can genuinely see it and feel it in action every single day.

Zero training. These restaurants suck to lead at. You are on your own from day 1. Senior management is highly critical when you do not meet their unspoken expectations, whether they showed/told you what to do or not. No help is given, even when asked. Praise for good results is only and overly granted to people subjectively deemed one “of us,” whatever that actually means. A typical day at work is great if you fit in, but cross or challenge the status quo and you will be extricated. The culture runs skin deep—leaders are overpaid, self-interested and inauthentic. If you’re looking for a career of popularity contest, apply here. Otherwise, proceed with caution knowing your time here will be limited. 

For a place that touts importance of its teams, it truly was the worst place I've ever worked in terms of mental health. When I started, everyone I met was new in their role, because they're not capable of maintaining leadership roles. They offer literally no training and follow that up with next to no support. I know that restaurants are always going to have shady spots, but I have never been happier than parting ways with this group. If you want to go serve or bartend, there is money to be made. I implore you, do not join management there. No matter how much they offer.

I am beyond frustrated with the way my time here has gone. All hard work done by the kitchen team is stifled by the upper management. Chefs are consistently being ran around with silly meetings and corporate nonsense and not allowed to put their focus in the kitchen. Line cooks are not allowed the time that it takes to prep for a successful dinner service. Family meal here seems like a mockery, front of house staff sits down and eats while back of house has to eat on the fly or choose not to eat at all to try to get prep done. Upper management doesn’t seem to have a clue what it take for the kitchen to run properly. Coworkers are taking pills on the clock and it’s ignored by managers. The standard for food and cleanliness drops when hours are cut, nothing is put in place to account for the work load for managers and chefs. 


What is the best part of working at the company?
This is the best company I have ever worked for. The best part is the support from a whole team, everyone is your cheerleader. The positive work environment makes it easy to go to work everyday. I hope to grow with this company.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Upholding the standards set before me.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Positive. Affirming. A definite "make others feel how you want to feel" attitude.
Constructive criticism when needed, but always with you can do it encouragement. We have a set of Core Values, and unlike most companies. we actually live these daily.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Busy! But I love it and I wouldn't want it any other way! I love coming to work.

A typical day at work was collaborative and structured. I was always greeted with a smile and laugh upon arrival with a set schedule of what I would be completing that day. The management at The Indigo Road is incredibly humble, understanding and successful individuals. My needs were always met and my differences were celebrated. I learned professionalism and time management in an upbeat, accepting environment. The most enjoyable part of the job was watching my completed work consistently being appreciated. The hardest part of the job was simply time management between having an internship and being a full time college student.

I absolutely love working with The Indigo Road. The atmosphere here is always beaming with positivity. The workplace is very friendly; the connections you make with other employees feel like years' long friendships. I always enjoy checking in the new guests and creating a warm welcoming environment for not only the guest but for the other employees as well. The hardest portion of the position I would say is to build a fire, sometimes it just does not want to light haha. I am very grateful to learn new skills at the front desk to use for a more embracing experience for everyone.
Indigo Road is a very promising company. I honestly feel more seen as a person because of Indigo. They value each employee they have just as much as family. Your achievements are congratulated, and your hardships are supported!
