Full Job Description

Job Summary: Under the direct supervision of the Inpatient Manager, the Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for implementing all physician orders, providing for the continuity and quality nursing care for all patients, with continual evaluation of the patientsâ€™ condition, providing patient safety comfort, and privacy at all times.

Job Responsibilities/Duties:

Â· Provide direct patient care, evaluate outcomes, consult with other specialists as required and adjust nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care

Â· Communicate with physicians about changes in patient's status, symptomatology and results of diagnostic studies

Â· Able to respond quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment

Â· Maintain awareness of current policies and procedures which impact position responsibilities

Â· Demonstrate current comprehensive and professional knowledge and skills in conformation with recognized nursing standards including the Patient Bill of Rights standards for patient care and the Nurse Practice Act

Â· Able to perform a head-to-toe assessment on all patients and reassessments as per policy, including geriatric patients and the general patient population

Â· Able to adequately assess and reassess pain, utilize appropriate pain management techniques, and educate the patient and family regarding pain management

Â· Able to monitor hemodynamic status of patient and correctly interpret the results

Â· Demonstrate knowledge of cardiac monitoring to identify dysrhythmias

Â· Able to perform waived testing (point-of-care testing) per Clinical Laboratoryâ€™s and according to patient care unitâ€™s policies and procedures

Â· Maintain current knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and his/her clinical condition

Â· Maintain accurate and continued nursing documentation including patient histories, conditions, treatments, responses and assessment of changes

Â· Perform all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduce the likelihood of medical/health care errors

Â· Interact professionally with patient and family and involve patient and family in the formation of the plan of care

Â· Formulate a teaching plan based on identified learning needs and evaluate effectiveness of learning, including family in teaching as appropriate

Â· Maintain a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients and families in accordance with hospital standards

Â· Demonstrate the values to team concept on a consistent basis

Â· Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications & Experience:

Â· Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, BSN preferred

Â· Minimum of two (2) yearsâ€™ experience in a hospital setting.

Â· Telemetry/ICU experience preferred

Â· Current Arizona Nursing License.

Â· Current CPR and ACLS required. PALS preferred.

Â· Excellent communication skills.

Â· Good organization habits

Â· Ability to care for patients for adult to geriatric patients.

Â· Excellent teaching skills.

Â· Basic knowledge of continuous quality improvement ideology.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Â· Requires visual acuity to inspect and analyze work close to the eyes and ability to hear sound with or without correction; Ability to climb, stoop, kneel, reach, stand, walk pull, push lift, and able to exert up to 40 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects

Â· Moderate physical activity performing somewhat strenuous daily activities of a primarily administrative nature

Â· The physical demands for this position include adequate vision, hearing, and repetitive motion

Â· Ascending or descending stairs, ramps, and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms

Â· Substantial movements (motion) of the wrist, hands, and/or fingers in a repetitive manner - Bending legs downward and forward by bending leg and spine - Standing, particularly for sustained periods of time.

Using upper extremities to exert force to draw, drag, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.

Â· Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving object horizontally from position to position

WORK CONDITIONS

â€¢ While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear.

â€¢ The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and taste or smell.

The employee is required to have close visual acuity to perform and activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing, and viewing a computer terminal.
