Job Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and compassionate Pre-Operative / PACU (Post-Anesthesia Care Unit) Registered Nurse to join our dedicated perioperative team. In this vital role, you will provide expert nursing care to patients before and after surgical procedures, ensuring their safety, comfort, and optimal recovery. Your expertise will support a wide range of specialties including ophthalmology, cardiology, trauma, and critical care, all within a fast-paced hospital environment. This position offers an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful difference in patient outcomes through skilled assessment, meticulous monitoring, and compassionate care delivery.

Responsibilities

Conduct thorough pre-operative assessments including vital signs, medical history review, and patient education to prepare individuals for surgery.
Monitor patients in the PACU for signs of pain, bleeding, airway compromise, or other complications, utilizing aseptic techniques and advanced patient assessment skills.
Administer medications such as analgesics, antibiotics, and sedation following strict protocols while adhering to HIPAA regulations and medical documentation standards.
Manage airway equipment including ventilators and perform basic life support (BLS) during emergencies to ensure patient safety.
Collaborate with surgical teams, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care plans across specialties such as ophthalmology, cardiology, trauma medicine, and emergency medicine.
Document all patient interactions accurately using EMR (Electronic Medical Record) systems like Cerner or Epic; maintain detailed medical records including ICD coding and CPT coding when applicable.
Provide education on post-operative care instructions and discharge planning to patients and their families to promote recovery at home or in long-term care settings.

Qualifications

Valid RN license with current registration in the state of practice.
Proven experience in acute care settings such as hospital medicine, ICU (Intensive Care Unit), or emergency room environments; trauma center experience preferred.
Strong knowledge of physiology, anatomy, medical terminology, and diagnostic evaluation techniques.
Hands-on experience with IV infusion, venipuncture (phlebotomy), suturing, catheterization (including urinary and central lines), and sterile processing procedures.
Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems such as Cerner or Epic; proficiency in ICD-10/ICD-9 coding is advantageous.
Ability to work effectively in high-pressure situations requiring critical thinking during acute pain management or trauma incidents.
Experience working with diverse patient populations including pediatrics, geriatrics, behavioral health patients, individuals with developmental disabilities or memory care needs.
