JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title Geological Technician

Department Geological Consulting

Reports To Principal Geologist and Management, Geological Services

Job Purpose

The Geological Technician provides field and office support for environmental remediation projects

conducted under Pennsylvania Act 2. The position supports site characterization, sampling and screening

activities, data evaluation, and preparation of figures, maps, and technical report sections under the

direction of a Professional Geologist. The role involves a mix of fieldwork and office‑based technical

support and requires strong observational skills, accurate field documentation, and a solid academic

foundation in geology or related geosciences.

Essential Functions

Environmental Remediation and ACT II Support

Support Act 2 environmental remediation and site characterization projects, including

baseline investigations and remedial investigations
1 • Assist with field programs designed to evaluate soil, groundwater, and site geology in

support of cleanup decisions

Collect and document data required for Act 2 reporting, including background,

characterization, and confirmation sampling

Sampling, Screening and Field Activities

Perform soil, groundwater, and vapor sampling under the supervision of a Professional

Geologist

Conduct field screening activities, including use of PID/FID, field test kits, and

visual/olfactory observations

Observe and document drilling, test pit excavation, and monitoring well installation

activities

Accurately record detailed field notes, including lithologic descriptions, sample locations,

depths, and field conditions

Maintain complete and defensible field documentation suitable for regulatory review

Data Management, Mapping and Technical Support

Prepare maps, figures, tables, and cross‑sections using field data and analytical results

3 • Assist with development of site plans, sampling location maps, and exceedance figures

Organize field data and laboratory results for inclusion in technical reports

Draft sections of technical reports, including methods, field activities, and data

summaries, under geologist supervision

Health, Safety and Field Practices

Follow established health and safety plans (HASPs) and company safety procedures

4 • Properly use and maintain field equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE)

Work effectively in active remediation environments, including construction and

industrial sites

Emergency Response

5 • Participate in emergency response and on‑call rotations as assigned

Support industrial service projects, environmental response, and site maintenance

activities

Job Specification Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree (4-year) in geology, geophysics, geoscience or closely related

Education discipline.
Successful completion of college accredited field camp

Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record

Certifications Eligibility and willingness to sit for the ASBOG Fundamentals of Geology
examination.

Experience Geologist in Training designation preferred

Strong understanding of basic geology, stratigraphy, and hydrogeologic

principles

Ability to collect accurate field observations and maintain high‑quality field

Professional notes
knowledge, skills
and capabilities Technical writing skills suitable for drafting report sections and documentation

Ability to follow technical direction from Professional Geologists and Project

Managers

Strong attention to detail and data quality

Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
PC proficiency Experience with GIS, drafting software, or environmental data management

systems is a plus
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted

Ability to traverse rugged terrain and active industrial, construction, or
