Full Job Description

Job Summary

Seeking a CNC Lathe Setup Machinist who will be responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining CNC lathes to produce precision machined parts according to blueprints, work orders, and quality requirements. This role requires strong setup skills, the ability to interpret drawings and tolerances, knowledge of tooling and offsets, and a commitment to safe, efficient, and accurate production.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Set up and operate CNC lathes to machine parts to print specifications, including dimensions, tolerances, finishes, and production requirements.
Read and interpret blueprints, work orders, setup sheets, tooling instructions, and inspection requirements.
Install and adjust workholding, tooling, inserts, collets, chucks, fixtures, and other machine components as needed for each job.
Perform first-piece, in-process, and final inspections using micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, indicators, thread gauges, and other precision measuring tools.
Troubleshoot machining issues such as tool wear, chatter, dimensional variation, finish problems, and machine alarms.
Maintain accurate production records, inspection documentation, and job travelers.
Monitor machine performance and part quality throughout production runs to ensure consistency and minimize scrap or rework.
Perform routine machine maintenance, cleaning, lubrication checks, and housekeeping duties in the work area.

Preferred Qualifications

Hands-on experience setting up and operating CNC lathes in a manufacturing or machine shop environment.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, work instructions, and basic GD&T callouts.
Strong understanding of machining practices, cutting tools, workholding, speeds, feeds, offsets, and tool wear.
Ability to use precision measuring instruments and verify parts to specified tolerances.
Basic math skills, including fractions, decimals, and metric conversions.
Ability to troubleshoot setup and production issues with limited supervision.
Strong attention to detail, dependability, and commitment to producing quality work.
Experience with Okuma, Fanuc, or similar CNC lathe controls.
Ability to edit G-code or conversational programs.
Experience machining a variety of materials such as stainless steel, aluminum, or brass.
Experience with bar feeders, live tooling, sub-spindles, or multi-axis lathe equipment.

Pay: $17.00 - $30.00 per hour
