Full Job Description

Overview

MARFORPAC G-5 needs someone who can own the planning battle rhythm, not just support it. You'll drive deliberate planning execution across one of the most consequential joint planning environments in the Indo-Pacific. Your work puts decision-ready products in front of senior leaders who need them on time, every time. This role also carries engineering and logistics equities, Class IV movement, theater access, and joint engineering integration that feed directly into planning outputs. If you thrive in high-tempo, high-stakes staff environments, can operate autonomously in the field, and know how to move planning actions from tasking to closure, this is your seat.

THE MISSION

Marines move on plans. Plans require relentless execution. As a Senior Planning Support Specialist embedded with MARFORPAC G-5 (Plans), you'll drive the daily planning battle rhythm and own delivery of planning support outputs across operational, functional, campaign, and posture planning cycles. You'll synchronize across USINDOPACOM, HQMC, MARFORPAC staff divisions, adjacent components, and MEFs, ensuring senior leaders always have on-time, decision-ready materials. You'll also represent the team at briefs and OPGs, independently capturing engineering equities and translating them into actionable inputs. The mission is real. The stakes are high.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Lead assigned planning support efforts across operational, functional, campaign, and posture planning cycles to meet directed timelines
Synchronize inputs across USINDOPACOM, HQMC, MARFORPAC staff divisions, adjacent components/sub-unified commands, and Marine Expeditionary Forces (MEFs)
Manage planning tasks, suspense dates, staffing actions, decision points, and follow-through to eliminate delays and rework
Run Operational Planning Team (OPT) and working group support — prep, read-aheads, notes and actions, closeout
Represent the team at briefs and OPGs autonomously, independently capturing engineering equities and guidance and communicating them back to the planning team
Integrate engineering support equities across service components, applying Priority of Effort principles to ensure joint engineering considerations are reflected in planning products
Develop briefing decks, information papers, and planning documents for senior leader review and approval
Edit and format products to executive-ready quality using established standards
Maintain version control and auditable staffing and coordination records across iterations
Coordinate program-based planning tasks to align assumptions, inputs, and outputs across organizations
Support posture initiative planning by organizing inputs, staffing actions, and implementation tracking
Support exercise operations, including full participation in shift-work environments as required
Coach junior staff on battle rhythm discipline, staffing hygiene, and product formatting to improve throughput

WHAT YOU BRING

Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience in a relevant field
Career level school completion (e.g., Expeditionary Warfare School or other service equivalents)
Intermediate Level Schools (ILS) completion (e.g., Marine Corps Command and Staff College or other service equivalents)
7+ years of experience supporting military, joint, or federal civilian planning including meetings, working groups, and staff products for senior leaders
Demonstrated proficiency producing and editing briefing decks, information papers, and formal planning documents
Demonstrated education and application of the Marine Corps Planning Process (MCPP) and the Joint Planning Process (JPP)
Familiarity with JPEC processes and joint planning forums including OPTs and joint planning groups
Strong analyst qualities — structured note-taking, working knowledge of construction properties and physical infrastructure, and clear communication back to cross-functional teams
Solid understanding of Pacific geography, theater access constraints, and regional ally dynamics in the Indo-Pacific
Familiarity with Class IV material movement processes, including TRANSCOM and DLA equities relevant to theater logistics
Understanding of joint engineering support integration across service components, including BDA, ADR, PDR, and FP frameworks in an operational context
Ability to work highly autonomously at briefs and OPGs, independently grasping and acting on engineering equities and guidance
Active TS/SCI eligibility
Ability to comply with government workplace requirements and obtain and maintain required access

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Intermediate Advanced Level Schools planning education (e.g., JAWS, SAMS, SAW, MAWS, SAASS)
Relevant professional certifications such as PMP
Prior relevant MOS experience (e.g., USMC 0507, 0505, 0502, 0511 or other service equivalents)
Prior experience working with or alongside USINDOPACOM, MARFORPAC, HQMC, a combatant command, Service component, or MEF HQ
