Full Job Description

BROAD SCOPE OF POSITION: The Executive Director is responsible for the overall leadership, management, and daily operations of the community, ensuring services are delivered in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, residents’ rights, and company policies and procedures. This role oversees all departments and ensures the community maintains high standards of resident care, service, safety, cleanliness, and hospitality.

The Executive Director provides direction and support to department leaders, ensuring effective team performance, regulatory compliance, and a positive environment for residents, families, and staff. This position is responsible for maintaining compliance with Arizona Department of Health Services regulations, protecting residents’ rights, and ensuring the community operates safely and ethically.

The Executive Director also oversees financial and operational performance, including managing the community budget, monitoring departmental expenses, maintaining financial controls, and working with corporate partners to oversee payroll, accounts receivable, and accounts payable. The role is responsible for achieving occupancy goals and supporting marketing and community outreach efforts to maintain strong census.

In addition, the Executive Director fosters a positive workplace culture through effective hiring, training, coaching, and staff retention efforts, while ensuring compliance with employment laws and company policies.

Salary will be based on the candidate's level of experience.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Work with community and corporate staff in planning and carrying out all aspects of community operations
Monitor each department, communicate and interpret policies, evaluate performance, provide feedback and assist, coach, and discipline staff as necessary
Maintain cleanliness and safety in community
Maintain current knowledge of state regulations and ensure 100% compliance in all areas
Understand and comply with all issues and regulations regarding residents’ rights
Staff community appropriately maintaining a high level of community and team spirit
Ensure compliance with all employment laws and company policies
Maintain low level of staff turnover
Ensure training and incentive programs are in place and working properly
Manage the budget
Monitor all department costs keeping within established guidelines
Work with corporate and community accounting department to regulate payroll, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and manage and safeguard all community funds
Develop and implement marketing plan
Maintain maximum occupancy
Develop positive community relationships in all areas

NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Performs other duties as assigned

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be at least 21 years of age
Certified as an Assisted Living Manager according to Arizona Rules and Regulations/Department of Health Services Licensure Division
Provide evidence of freedom from pulmonary tuberculosis
Pass a criminal record clearance (fingerprints or other evidence of clearance)
Able to communicate with residents, physicians, medical professionals, family members and local community and government agencies
Provide evidence of first aid training for adults and be currently certified in CPR for adults including providing documentation or a demonstration of the ability to perform CPR

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must meet requirements of certification as an Assisted Living Manager
Must complete, or provide evidence of completion of, a Department approved training program for managers of Assisted Living Facilities as appropriate to the facility license and sub classification or provide evidence of competency
College degree preferred
Minimum of two years college
Public relations background helpful

EXPERIENCE:

Four years working in a managerial position with hire-fire authority.
Two years experience in managing financial controls or budgets.
Minimum one-year experience in a facility or agency that provides health or health related services and is licensed, certified or approved by a state in the United States; the professional field of nursing, social work, gerontology or a closely related field; or has experience in providing direct, hands on care to one or more adults.

SPECIAL SKILLS OR REQUIREMENTS:

Good people skills required.
Ability to handle staffing and employee issues.
Computer literate within the boundaries of job requirement.
Excellent communication skills.
Must be licensed in accordance with any state regulations.
Able to respond to emergencies of all kinds.
Must be able to work full time and be available seven days a week/24 hours per day.
